Simpson Brushes Appreciation Thread

Anyone here got a side by side picture of duke 3 vs classic 2 best badger?
Want to buy a simpson brush without breaking the Bank, given the prices on them (and the fair amount of other better options on the market in the price range). The 2 came in my range for owning a simpson best badger and they do have similar specs.
Have you considered the Colonel, which has a Best knot?

If i get a Simpsons it might as well be an iconic shape of the brand. I don't intend to start a Simpson side collection as I own many fine badgers. Just want to add a proper Simpson in the lineup. As stated previously simpson is bucks for the brand history rather then the exquisite quality.

In that case I’d go for the Duke. I believe the Duke was Alexander Simpson’s favourite brush and that his nickname was the Duke; unfortunately, I can’t remember where I read this.

PS, I’ve emailed. Mark Watterson at Simpson about the above. I’ll post the response.

No satisfaction from the Isle of Man; most disappointing. I’d have thought that this would be the sort of anecdote they’d have in their archives seeing how they position the brand, “Tradition & Heritage since 1919”, with a section on the company’s history on their website. Thanks again to @adrian ivanovici for digging up Gary Young’s piece.

Unfortunately many of us have been disapointed ... And I agree on the variability of the quality of their shaving brush.

I have reported lately a big issue and and the end of the discussion, I was the one to be foolish ... I was really discussed and this last exchange with Simpsons made me to decide to stop considering this brand ...

I am buying now on nice handle that I equip with top notch knot !

It is joyful, better at a lower cost ...

I suppose they think they have enough customers to loose the occasional one here and there. However as this thread displays many years of having a great reputation can be eroded away at.

I was miffed with them not being able to produce a synthetic Major. I’m nearly 100% synthetic these days, for travelling they for me are much better to dry and maintain. Badgers just seem to hold moisture more and can quickly smell a little.

Well, it saves me from buying a Duke 3.
I really am sorry to read this. I have 14 Simpson badger brushes (12 in Best and 2 Manchurian), and not one quality issue including zero shedding in any of the brushes. The Manchurian knots are nice, but the Best knots are my favorites with their soft tips and ample backbone.

I have a number of other brushes with some higher priced, but I value my Simpson’s as top notched keepers. If I had to pick the one Simpson keeper it would be my Duke 3 Best. It simply does everything great.
