I bought a Chubby 2 synthetic when they first came out and had the same experience with knot being very stiff and difficult to use face lathering with circular motions. All the testers of the preproduction version had nothing but good to say about the brush. Turned out that the tester brushes had 54mm lofts and the production brushes has lofts around the 50mm mark. I always suspected that had made the difference. The knot fell apart due to operator error when I tried to remove it to rest the loft higher so I never did find out for sure if a higher loft would have made a difference.

I've just had this delivered today - 1st foray into the world of Simpson brushes. I'll be sure to post a picture of it in the flesh and how I get on with it later - what can I expect folks?

Forgot to share my experience here.
After getting my first synthetic brush from Simpson (Sovereign Fibre Chubby 2), I couldn't stop thinking about how platinum fibre would perform.

I got lucky one day, I traded in two soaps, one lotion, and one shaving brush for the Chubby 2 in Platinum fibre.

Now, I'm a happy owner of two fantastic synthetic brushes from Simpson!

But, my joy didn't last long.
The Chubby 2 in Platinum has an uncomfortable backbone that makes it nearly impossible to use in circular motions on my face. While the knot is soft, maybe even softer than the Sovereign, it's really, I mean REALLY challenging to work with this brush. I don't use shaving bowls and always face lather. With this brush, I can't even load soap comfortably.

I tried to find some positives with this brush for about a week, but it just didn't happen.
So, without any regret, I put this brush up for sale on my local marketplace.

Complain to Simpsons- paying a premium for a brush that’s unusable is totally unacceptable and without experience one wouldn’t know that before using it. I sent back my custom CH3 for that reason but I hadn’t used it.

That's a huge disappointment, Kostia. There have been a few negative comments regarding the platinum fibre brushes in recent times.
Does yours have a significant glue bump? From your photos, it looks as if there's a bulge in the knot up to the lower edge of the dark band.

I’m not sure what exactly glue bump is, but the feelings with this brush like inside the knot is a finger that doesn’t give you an opportunity to flatten brush somehow.

I heard from people who have tried the most popular synthetics (not from China) like Simpson or Omega Evo etc., that they paused on Muhle STF (M size). I wanna try someday.

I think the big thing is not to expect a synthetic knot to duplicate what a badger or boar knot feels like or lathers like. I own several synthetic knot brushes of different makes. They will all face lather doing circular motions. I did have to reset the loft one to get it to perform better though.

Are you sure that those Omega Evo, Simpson or Muhle are manufactured in Europe and not in China?

I would say I'm 99% sure they are made in China, but I didn't say that correctly. I meant that companies like Omega, Muhle or Simpson don't position themselves as Chinese brands, unlike Yaqi or Ds Cosmetics etc. My bad.

That sounds like a glue bump. If you squeeze the knot directly above the handle opening, it may feel solid. The intention is to reduce the free length of the hairs and for the knot to open up (splay), hence increasing backbone and face feel.

I was rooting around in my container of what I thought were empty shaving brush boxes when I came across a Simpson box containing a Case best badger. The brush was still wrapped in tissue paper inside the box and doesn’t look as though it’s ever been used. What’s more puzzling is that I don’t remember buying it, although a few years ago I was looking for a badger brush for travel small enough to fit in the Simpson brush tube I have; I did buy a small Vulfix for this purpose. I’ve been using the Case for the past week. It’s the second smallest brush I own after the Wee Scot, and is taking time to break in and getting used to its small size. This serendipitous find brings my Simpson brush total to 6: Case, Colonel, Tulip 2, Wee Scot, QE II Jubilee and Duke 2. My favourite is the QE II Manchurian, which is surprising because I’ve owned other Simpson Manchurians, which I haven’t liked at all, and have sold.

Want to buy a simpson brush without breaking the Bank, given the prices on them (and the fair amount of other better options on the market in the price range). The 2 came in my range for owning a simpson best badger and they do have similar specs.
