Yes, quite different. I prefer the premium fibres used in the Chubby but I know a lot of people actually prefer the cheaper grade... The backbone can be bit OTT on the Chubby synths.
If by premium fibers you are referencing the Manchurian hair, yes some of us who've used both prefer SiLVERTiP 2band over the Manchurian, and now it's got me wondering exactly what a CH2 CH3 in Super grade must feel like. Any input on this matter is quite welcomed. :)

And yes Dr Watson, I absolutely agree with you my CH2 synthetic's backbone is similar to thin fibers of iron rod.

James is referring to the two grades of synthetic fibres Mark is using. That used in the chubby is higher grade than the Trafalgar.
The current 2-Band SiLVERTiP is superb, hence my further purchasing, however, the Manchurian hair from 2012-15 I still rate the best.

Thanks David, exactly right I was referring to the synthetic fibres. I've not had the pleasure of a SiLVERTiP 2-Band.

Thank you, that's good to know!

I tend to like backbone, so perhaps I should try one...

You, deinitely, should, but give the Chubby 2 synthetic some time as it is very different than other synthetic knots. It really does need time to 'break in'/relax. I have a few and they work, extremely well. I have to say that it is the best synthetic brush I have tried. Actually, it is the knot I enjoy as I dislike the handle which is much too small. I prefer longer handles.

I agree on every point, including the handle, but I have never had a Chubby for that very reason, however, it is an iconic brush, and I suppose everyone should have at least one! :okay:

Try a CH2 Synth if you love backbone. :okay:

Of my two Simpson synthetics, I prefer the Trafalgar 3 to the Chubby 2 Synth, but that's just me. My CH2 synth is very stiff. For bowl lathering I don't have any issues with it - the brush softens up and will splay nicely during mixing. For face lathering, the brush remains stiff and uncomfortable within the short time I like to build lather, which may be quite brief compared to others.

Decided to sell mine it's the Dark Knight faux ebony (photos in this thread), so will have (3) Simpsons to sell on eBay very soon. :)

So I've emailed Simpson to get a Chubby 2 Synthetic. Any recommendations on colour? I'm thinking Ruby or Opal Blue.

Anyone had custom loft on synths or best to just leave it standard?
No way of choosing between those two, Jon. Only option is both. :D
I had one of the early brushes with loft 52mm and perfect for me, although I do like some backbone. More than adequate splay.
