Hi all,
Some help please! I'm thinking of getting a Chubby 2 synthetic but I'm a bit confused. Let me give an example:
www.simpsonshavingbrushes.com
Buy the Executive Shaving Medium Synthetic Shaving Brush with Black Handle. Packed full of soft synthetic fibres housed in a black resin handle. Order by 3pm for same day dispatch.
www.executive-shaving.co.uk
Some observations from the above:
- Considerable price difference! The official shop is quite more expensive than other retailers (executive shaving is a random example). This is a bit surprising considering that e.g. Chubby 2 Super Badger is similarly priced as with other retailers. Could it be that the synthetic is some newer version other shops don't yet have?
- The executive shaving site must have an older picture of the synthetic since it's labeled Synthetic Badger, while the official site (and others) label it Synthetic Bristle. The latest one if Synthetic Bristle, right?
- Executive shaving mentions the loft approximately 52mm, while the official site 50mm. Others mention 49mm.
Here's the main issue: from what I've read and for my personal liking I believe 50mm is too short for this kind of knot. I'm afraid it won't splay easily. So the 52mm seems better. Point is, will it be 52 or given the approximate measures it could also be 50 or even less? What loft size do you find best for this kind of brush? From other post I think I saw some say that even 54mm is better. But to get this loft size it's probably best to check with the official shop if they have such a brush or they plan to produce one. I don't think one can have such an expectation from a retailer because they get whatever Simpsons provides them.
Which brings me to the second question: is there a point to buy from the manufacturer given the higher prices? The only one I can think of is what I mentioned above, asking for a different knot. On the other hand, if e.g. executive shaving already has higher loft brushes which are also cheaper then there's not much to think about.
What do you think?
