I notice Shave Lounge has the Duke 3 synthetic on offer, £41 delivered after forum discount... Seems like a pretty sweet deal.
Go for it. I have both Duke & Chubby 2 synths and greatly prefer the Duke 3. Splays easier than the Chubby, & allows for more precise application of lather above the lip etc. My only issue with Simpson synths is that when splayed the lather is forced back onto the handle. That said, I reach for the Duke 3 at least once every 10 days.

I have a love/hate relationship with synths, I'll use them exclusively for a couple of months and then do a 180 and use nothing but badger... I've owned and sold both Chubby 2 and Classic 1, the former is one of the better synthetics out there and the latter was a bit rubbish in all honesty. I was briefly tempted by the Duke but I'm not in a synth phase at the moment so settled for enabling others

Found a Badger/Bristle Simpson that was made for Gimbels so it joined the family.

The third Simpson from the left with the dark butterscotch handle is another Gimbels; a #46 Best Badger. The far right is the Gimbels Badger/Bristle. The light butterscotch is a Coates.

Just picked up my CH3 Manchurian in Candy Stripe.

As most should know Simpson lists their knots for the CH3 at 28.5mm by 54mm. Mine measured in at 30mm by 53mm so a very sizeable knot.

This brush is "used" but only 2 or 3 times so very much a brand new brush and the tips do indeed feel like it. So will break it in this coming week.

My CH3 next to my CH2. I really like the hairs on the CH2 but don't really like how it was fit to the brush as it just doesn't splay as much as I would have liked it to but still a great brush. But I might sell that CH2 to possibly get my hands on a SiLVERTiP if Mark has any or can make one for me.

My example looks identical to the picture

It's quite a bulb compared to a Duke 3 Best.
When I removed it from the tissue paper it looked very small. All my main brushes are 26-28mm fans and at least 50mm loft. This is 24/48mm and a bulb. MUCH smaller than I'm used to. However, I love my CH2 Synth so it was used this morning.

It feels just like a CH2 synth, but smaller. Mega soft tips. Plenty of backbone and takes some effort to splay. Lathers like a champ and produces very refined lather (no bubbles - just like the CH2). I think I'd prefer it as a fan, it'd feel bigger and splay easier, but it won't be a major part of my rotation it'll be in my travel washbag. If I'd paid £69 I'd be disappointed, it's just too small. But for £40 it'll be a great travel brush.

Thanks for the report. Yes all the Simpson synths seem to come up a size small or so due to the knot shape... My Chubby 2 felt like a 24mm and the Classic 1 felt like a 19mm, at most.

It'll make a lovely travel brush :okay:
