Silver Birch Brushes

I took up wood turning as a hobby and then got into wet shaving which led to me creating my own brushes, here are some of my brushes made so far


Local piece of Olive ash with a 26mm silvertip and 2 band shown set into it.

This is some spalted Beech with a 26mm brown synthetic knot set into it

This was a purple heart handle with a white band added to it and darkened around the base, hated letting this one go.

It is a great looking wood and if you get a piece with nice spalting in it it look lovely make sure you have an excellent dust mask when working with it as the spores that cause the black are quite dangerous.

Thank you for the info. I know spalting is basically rot, but didn’t consider this, though I imagine a dust mask is worth it whatever you are working with.

Yes when you look into the toxicity of some of the woods they can be very dangerous for you lungs.

This was a piece of purple heart and idigbo turned fitted with a synthetic 24mm fan and beside it the same knot in an american cherry wood beehive without the tapered base, the beehive one i use quite a lot.

This is was request from a friend of a friend for a cocobolo and a 30mm silvertip, it a fantastic wood to work with finishes really well and when coated looks great

These were for the same person a zebrano with a 24mm and darker panga panga which has a birth year coin in the base with a 26mm, you can see in the bottom 2 images the before and after with the finished coating on the brush.

Ha, I have a spalted Beech too:

Barber style with an Omega boar.

I want to purchase a mixed knot from Maggards and have another heavy wood handle made up for it, I will let you know when I get the knot.
I have cleaned the mini boar tonight and it was very clean and held loads of water, I shall use v soon cheers Steven. Paul.
