SF, like any city, is all about knowing where not to go. The homeless problem is real, but it’s also pretty concentrated. I live a couple miles west of downtown in the hills and it’s a completely different world than the area you experienced. But the best part of SF is the proximity of so many incredible areas within a couple hour drive. We arrived at LA last year and went up through Sequila National Park, another fantastic drive. Sorry but we didn’t like SF, all them homeless people and weed. One homeless person started following us, we had to duck in a few stores and get their security to get her to move on. Not nice. Carmel was very nice.
Can’t really help you with the weed, but that’s more about differing opinions on what the definition of a problem is.
