Shave oils?

I've been using a shave oil since June and am pretty convinced that it helps the experience significantly. I'm just running out of my Mr Natty oil and wondering what to try next.

The supermarkets usually have a King Of Shaves oil on their shelves, is this any good? I have also seen Floid oil get good mentions. Others?

Any help gratefully accepted.

I have been using King of shaves in the 2 blue versions and green. 1 is super cooling and the other 2 are sensitive. The small green and the small blue version have aloe and tea tree. The large blue is labelled advanced and has a different fragrance from the others I use the advanced but will use the others when that runs out. They're a bargain and though only. 0.5 and 0.6 fl ozs they last for ages. About £3.00. They do give you an extra chance when the soap is less slick or hasn't been dialled in properly. I will try to attach a pic but they are at many supermarkets and available online. Good luck PS I bought Brian's signature Capra soap from Bolton and its easy to load, creamy and heals most nicks. Post shave is excellent and it's in a 190 gramm tube at a 100 g price point. He's a good artisan soap maker with a reputation that's growing.

Sommersets have a fantastic shave oil for tough beard. 15ml only, but it is great.

Another great option is the Nuage Oil. Fantastic performance under some creams that don't have much slickness.

And something else; Many people are complaining about these kind of oils that clog the razor, are heavy on the face etc. They just use too much.

There are two ways:

1. Shave Oil and just that, no lather; 10 drops at most, AFTER you have washed your face with hot water. After applying the oil by rubbing really good into the whiskers, then rewet the face by splashing one more time hot water on it and THEN start shaving.

2. As a preshave combined with soap/cream. Now, only 4-6 drops. Hot water on the face, apply the shave oil with the same way, lather up on top of it and start shaving.

* For the second method, I find that when combined with soap/cream, it is better to use it on the subsequent passes, or even just on the final, ATG pass, to help the glide even more and to avoid the grabbing from the blade. Of course if you use some powerful soaps with amazing performance, no oil is necessary.

** Maggards make their own shave/pre shave oil, excellent, I must order more, I use it as a beard oil too. Just read the ingredients, damn fantastic.

This is really good advice I have tried all these options and warm water then oil - then lather is good for me. Yes you can just apply oil but I don't find it so cushioning however I wi try it using more than my usual 4 squirts of pre shave oil. Interesting post

Do you know if Somerset are available in supermarkets? I wanted to try nuage but only found it online - would b nice to just walk into Tesco and buy one to try - although 1 small King of Shaves lasts for ages. My last one is definitely a different combination of ingredients - it smells like it anyway. Why is it wet shavers enjoy the smells of so chalked classic and barber shop but wives and mates rarely like it. Are we a strange community. I wore Pashana to a temp desk job and 2 of my colleagues from Romania and Poland both nearly ckoked when I walked into the room. They started recommending - "colognes that didn't smell of dead cattle" I still love the heaviness of Pashana and its a good face healer if you get a really crap shave - I rember when the barber used it in the friction lotion form in the early 70's and forcibly rubbed it into me then thick hair. It burnt on my scalp like crazy. It was a shilling a shot. That was a real barbershop ping. Loved it.

Sainsburys normally have Nuage only a £1 or you could try Superdrug and see if they have the Pinaud Clubman shave oil 0.69p ( i doubt it but you never know)

Does anyone ever drop shave oil in their lather? I have done and thought it made a difference, but I might be kidding myself.

I have been using Nuage for a while now and I nerd to order more. It definitely makes a difference to razor glide and its so cost effective. Strangely having used it for many shaves I tried my sensitive King of shaves and got a chin load of razor bumps but that may be due to other factors??
