If you tell the clerk at the point of departure the the item is a gift you should not pay import duty or taxes. As long as you send the item from your countries postal service. If the item is sent by courier you will pay duty and taxes. I purchase products from all over the world and - only us the postal service. The postal service may not be the fastest, but it is the most cost effective.

No as its a gift. If some one bought it from a company and got it shipped directly to you, then it would be possible. I doubt that would happen at the gift price range though.
You could even buy something from the recipeants country and save on international postage. Just contact the company and ask them not to include an invoice.

I think it is more fun to keep it quiet who you have sent to.

May be a good idea if the receiving party only acknowledges receipt, that way the sender knows it got there safe. I'd certainly like to know if what I am sending is received as I'd be mortified if it doesn't.

I want the receiver to know who sent it. I think it's nice to think well of a fellow forum member who went to the trouble of sending you a present. I think it helps to build ties with people. I would be mortified if someone thought someone else had gone to the trouble of sending a present. I know this may not be in the absolute spirit of Secret Santa but it is my preference.
