Optometrist

Forum GOD!
I haven't been posting much lately, but I don't remember seeing you shave with a straight previously @Optometrist, it is great to see you've picked up the blade in the mean time, I hope you're having fun
Long story short, I began straight razor shaving in 2011, but, unfortunately, had to stop three years later due to a medical issue with my neck. Thought I'd never be able to return, but early days are promising.

Preshave:
Hot water rinse
Razor: English Gillette Slimtwist
Blade: Gillette Nacet (4)
Brush: New Forest High Mountain Badger 2223
Shaving Soap/Cream: Hawkins & Brimble Elemi & Ginseng
Aftershave Balm: Bulldog Sensitive
Aftershave: Avon Rugger (vintage)

Top notch lather from a little H&K cream, highly recommended if you haven't tried it. Slickness, glide and cushion aplenty with a hint of mild aneasthetic tingle. Unless that's just me. Anyway, a near BBS finish, 8.5/10, and still trying to finish the Avon Rugger AS, now also using as a body splash.

Happy shaves.

Regards,
Chris

Just a single

My first ever SE shave with a brand new razor went something like this:
  • Pre: Warm shower and soapy bloom water
  • Soap: London Oatcake Abysso
  • Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia
  • Razor: Razorock Hawk V2
  • Blade: Kai Captain Mild (Pink)
  • Post: Humphreys' Citrus Witch Hazel
A great introduction to SE shaving. Getting the right blade angle with the Hawk is going to take a bit of dialling in, but overall this was an efficient shave which has left me pretty much BBS with no soreness or irritation. Looking forward to trying it again in a couple of days 💈👍🏼😎

I've tried the M1 and R1 Calypso plates - now time for the S1 variant.

This isn't as smooth as the stainless version but the end result was flawless. Let's see if the smoothness comes with more use.
