Thanks Chris. Getting them ready for my Sister's wedding on Sunday.

We have very similar taste in shoes. I wear suede Desert boots but from Next. I've tried a number Clarks shoes but the insoles comes away very easliy for me. Which is a shame as I love Wallabees.
The Next Desert boots are very comfortable and half the price of the Clarks. I currently have 3 pairs on the go.

Boot type Brogues are next on my list. I do have some Grenson on brogues, which I've had for years.

Shame to hear about the soles and your Clarks..mine have been bulletproof touch wood. Might have a sneaky peek at the Next ones as the Clarks ones have been getting more pricey in recent years.

Ooo @ blackmass you have got my polishing juices flowing. I've been well and truly enabled to buy this set of horse hair brushes. The Saphir will follow shortly I'm having trouble deciding on the colour choice for my Oxblood loafers and Oxfords. They don't seem to do a Burgundy as such I'll research a little more before deciding. I need to feed the leather to keep them supple.

You should also consider adding vibram soles to your shoes and finding a competent cobler in your vicinity. Leather soles and rain don't go well together.

Aaaargh. Never! I can't dance in rubber soles. Leather all day for me but I agree leather can be a right pain on slippy surfaces. I've learned over the years to walk in leather but I still get dodgy moments once in a while.

I would err on the side of a lighter shade, rather than darker, and perhaps factor in using a neutral polish on occasion. It really depends on the kind of patina that you want to develop over time. Saphir Renovateur is brilliant and well worth the price of admission, by the way.

Thank you. It is on my list of things to buy. I don't have ultra expensive shoes but do like Loake Royals which I have worn for years. I get my loafers from Samuel Windsor which are obscenely inexpensive for a quality all leather shoe. Trainer of choice well only one for me and they are Sambas in leather and suede.

I would agree with you if I lived anywhere but in England... In addition, when your shoes are wet, you have to put newspapers (something that will absorb humidity) inside the shoes, leave the leather soles to dry, etc. A real pain in the *ss.
My solution is to wear corrected grain leather shoes (in truth I wouldn't understand why someone would wear shoes made of it, the practical reasons imposed themselves after a few weeks of British rain): almost no maintenance.

We're transitioning from short sleeve shirts(summer uniform) to long sleeve shirts(winter uniform) on Monday. So it's time to polish my 5.11 Tacticals. They're insulated and waterproof. After wiping the dust off, about a half hour of work and two coats of polish brought us to this...

Not bad for Kiwi huh?
