Royal Mail - Return to sender

Does anybody know how long it takes for a package to be returned to sender?
Does it disappear into a pit for a couple of months or anything?
I know it does if the address is wrong or something.

I ordered something it was delivered signed for but put in number 39 not 36.
According to the lady, she didn't recognise the name so put it back in the post 'return to sender'.
I told the vendor but he doesn't believe me.
So, I am wondering how long i have to wait for it to arrive back at his place.

Your package will be at the end of the queue for delivery back to the recipient. RM doesn't get paid for returns. so you and the vendor will have to wait until sometime up to 90 days for it to get back.

Hmmm, yes, that is what i was expecting.
:(

Thanks.
It is frustrating that the postie put it in the wrong door and also signed for it himself and popped it through the letterbox.

No good intention goes unpunished. My postie signs for mine and puts them in my woodshed. Saves me loads of time going to the PO.

Agreed.
I have a place for them to put mine too.
All is good when it goes right eh?
Unfortunately, i suspect if he had tried for a sig, the lady would have pointed it out.

Might have to put a claim in with ebay as RM might take three months but ebay only allow a claim for 30 days.
