Rocnel Sailor 2020 adjustable razor production model

After using only the 2020 sailor s razor exclusively for a few days I am now much more used to the razor and how to use it and am enjoying great shaves. Yesterday I had one of the closest shaves I have ever had, and i am now at the fourth stage for WTG, the third stage with ATG and the second stage for XTG.

When shaving with the razor, the blade is always felt once one departs from the first two stages. However it is never unpleasant and you have a strong degree of control with how solid the razor feels in the hand. I will try the fifth stage next to see how that shave will go the next time I use it!

I have had Nacet, Feather and Voskhod with this razor and of all of them, I found the Voskhod blade seems to pair the best with the razor for my purposes and preferences.

To sum up, this razor is definitely one of my favourite razors now.

I switched from the seygus to the rocnel yesterday and this time I went to the fifth stage for WTG, fourth stage for ATG and 3rd stage for XTG. Smooth and one of the best shaves I have had, pleasant blade feel. What a razor - it is a completely different shaving experience from the seygus zeppelin ttanium - the latter was a autopilot super smooth and super comfortable with hardly any blade feel but you have to stay in the moment and be mindful during the shave for the rocnel. Both great shaves in their own way.

Do you know how many of the 2020 razors Murat has made?

The photos on Extra Shave show s.13 on the bottom of the handle, so it would seem that at least that number have been made.

I dont know about the absolute number but I think he has made many more than 13.

On the seygus 07 side I have compared it to the masamune and the latter is considerably smoother. The rocnel is a blade feel centric razor so it has an entirely different philosophy. Only in the first and maybe second setting is the rocnel having comparatively little blade feel

I read some reviews for this razor from people who's opinion I hold in high regard (they seem to have a similar taste in razors) and decided to contact Murat for a order. Had to wait a week or two as they where being assembled at that moment. Very good communication with the maker I must say.

Took less then 48 hours from Turkey to Belgium. Beautiful package, best I have seen so far. I owned the Sailor gold ring first gen but this is certainly a big improvement.

Until now never found a adjustable that I really liked a lot and I've tried many. Visually it's a jewel (although a lot of my shaving friends find it over the top and ugly because of it's massiveness and weight).

The balance is good (much better than a Pils for instance), it's heavy and massive but I had no problem in areas like under the nose and such. Started at stand 1 and upped that every next shave, I kept the stand the same during the whole 3 pass shave during the test phase.

Since I've gone thru all stands up to twice around the dot, for me all stands are useable although for me personally stands 2 up to 6 will be the most used. Still experimenting what gives the best result, going up thru the settings after each pass or going down.

Only once did I draw a little bit of blood on stand 8, with the big opening the corner of the Feather blade hooked my earlobe a bit.

The Sailor 2020 will get a place among my favourite razors (Paradigm, Raw shaving, Blackland, ....). Like several others I would love a Titanium version. The high price is already forgotten because the pleasure I get out of it.

It's definitely not a cheapie but, my initial shave and thoughts are very positive. Short handle, oversized razor head with some heft to it. You would think that this is going to be off balance and overly head heavy. Well, it might be slightly porky on the head side but, it actually balances very well and once in the shave I barely noticed it. The handle is shorter than I would prefer but, it's not a deal breaker. The quality & craftsmanship is world class and not up for debate.

More shaves to get better acquainted with it and more reports to follow....

A very smooth & efficient shave was had in 2 passes and completely drama free. Started on IV and ended on II on the second and final pass. This thing is killer on the ATG pass and is one of the best that I’ve experienced. Maybe 2, perhaps 3 razors in my den can match it but, don’t know if they’re better though. I’m going to let a few days go by and turn this thing loose on 2-3 days growth. Wonderful evening and shaves to all….

I have been playing around with some other razors, and anyone who knows me knows I sell off razors to keep my collection under some control, so I thought about selling my Rocnel 21. I always do a final shave with a razor before I do a final soaking in Barbicide and list it. Last night I used the 21 with a 7th use Poland Polsilver and it isn’t going anywhere. First pass at 4, 2nd at 3 and touch up on 2 and I was BBS that lasted until this afternoon. This truly is a remarkable razor IMHO, I can use it as a Daily driver or when on vacation I can tackle a 5 day beard with no issue. Don’t know what I was thinking but it is back on my rack. I also have no rattling with mine when loaded with a blade and locked down.

Last night I pulled out my Original B&R adjustable to compare it to my 2021 Rocnel. I used ETHOS Greenfresh soap and AS along with PolSilver blades. I did a 3 pass shave at 6 WTG, 5 XTG and 4 ATG. Both sides gave me a wonderfully smooth BBS shave that lasted 14 hours before I felt a whisker. The original B&R is 146g and the 21 is 135g on my scale. The head design is different and the B&R comes completely apart. I love both razors but I am thinking the original is as good as the follow ups.
