Rockwell Model T

OK. It is here. Not used it yet but everything looks good. First impression. Size very similar to Parker variant and merkur progress albeit the head is a tad smaller. Nice finish and everything seems to close down and connect well. The twist action surprised me. VERY precise in as much as there is a tension throughout and no obvious lock down point. They put a price tag of $52 on the label , hence the lower than expected import tax so good on them for that. Got the stand too. Quality gear. Razor bank - mmm, got a few of those anyway. Slip to put blades in is ok - May take it on holiday. may leave it there and not care.

Will report back later regarding shaves as up to my arse in pulling the trigger on a new electric BMW for the missus. Never know - may get lucky later. :okay: The things we have to do to get a new razor!!!!

Ok, it has been a while and I have also been away. Had a handful of shaves and all remains good.

Further to comments made at no 31 above -

Am I pleased with it - yes
Shall it be on BST soon - no.
Is it better than my 6S - no - although it does offer easier options.
Does it look the dogs' - yes.
Am I a happy bunny - yes,.

For what it is worth I have had a Polsilver in there. This is better than any high end razor I have tried to date ( as is the 6S ) but I admit, I have not yet had the pleasure of a PIls. Other than that I see no reason to extend any search for perfection other than our usual need for shaving obsession.

At least some people have actually received theirs. I ordered a gunmetal version, when I was a much younger man, and still haven’t received mine. I'm done paying in advance for any razor.

OK, a few shaves in and I continue to like this razor. In fact I like it a lot. Does it beat the 6S? Well......... No, I do not think it does but YMMV of course. I have still found nothing to beat the 6S on 3 for my normal go to shaves. The 'T' has the obvious advantage though of quick changes on the blade gap when necessary. I reckon the 3 setting on the ';T' is a tad harsher than the 3 plate on the 'S'. Certainly for me anyway. I think I was expecting the Model T to be far bulkier than the 6S ; it is not. The twist action remains tight and VERY positive and precise. All is aligned well and it performs great with a Polsilver SI. Must try some other blades in it. Will it be going on BST? Not at the moment but never say never. Looks great in the matching stand too. For me this is a lot of razor for the money and far better value than some of the other high end options that I have tried and found not to be my thing. PILS is still nagging in my 'need to try before dying' drawer though.

Funny old shaving world. Further to the above entry ( which I clearly should not have posted until today's shave had been completed ) , I have gone again with, admittedly, a day or so growth over my normal but, with a third use Polsilver, my stroke or two on level 3 did not seem right. Upped to a 4 and went again with a result that I can only describe as my VERY best 1st pass ever. I think maybe I had been confusing aggressiveness with feedback and I certainly got plenty of the latter on the 4 setting. I could of happily walked away then with a great shave but, as we do, went the whole hog and ended up as a new born!! No irritation, no bleeds, just a wonderful shave.

I DO have one complaint with the 'T'; though. The indicator arrow can hardly be seen, even with my glasses on and it is more difficult than SHOULD be necessary to dial it in.

What? A little over a year and the thread has gone silent. Is the Model T that bad? Can it not provide one a comfortable yet efficient shave? Is the quality still not up to snuff? Well, thought I’d give the thread a bit of a jump start again because though it isn’t talked about as much compared to the more exotic alloy razors that it competes against, it is still quite a good shaver. I used mine this morning as it has been dormant for quite some time and truthfully it gave an excellent shave. Easy to get the cutting angle and it just goes about its business of reducing whiskers a stroke at a time. I’ve never experienced a bad shave with it and the razor still looks as good as the day I received it almost a year and a half ago. Truth be told I’ve only had about 20 to 30 shaves with it in that time but, it hasn’t disappointed on performance nor quality issues have surfaced. The TTO mechanism works flawlessly as does the adjustment dial. Nothing has come loose or fallen apart as of this writing. It’s a performer that shaves as good as its older sibling, the 6s and arguably for some (like myself) it shaves better. I used to think that when it was first released at under $100 USD, it was a pretty good deal. Once that Rockwell decided to raise the price of the Model T to $150 USD, I was sure that it was just to much for a Brass, Zinc & chrome plated razor with some Stainless internal components to give it some legs in durability. Today, I’m not so sure with the current world economic situation plus, the uber price tags that we are seeing in the luxury razor department. I mean, the Rocnel Sailor S Adjustable is nearly $700 USD and a host of other razors that have surpassed the $200+ price point. Of course they are made with better and costlier alloys that are meant to last a lifetime and even a couple of lifetimes and arguably the cost befits them as some of them are true works of functional art. Now I see the price of the Model T and say “that’s not so bad“ when I consider price/performance ratio. It’s not the prettiest or most exotic and it might not be the best shaver out there but, it’s pretty darn good for what it was designed to be. An affordable (in today’s economics) razor for the every day Man.

The shave today was again excellent.....

Well my photography and arrangement skills are certainly not up to yours @Str8Mug but your post gave me the kick needed to brush the dust off mine. Had a great shave on level 4 with a new Polsilver SI having also dusted off the Stirling and my Bodger. I seem to recall averse comments as to the head size with this but I still find it no issue especially under the Snoz!! Lovely razor at ( when I bought it ) a sensible price. It does tend to get overlooked in favour of my 6S's.

do you think the Model T is a carbon copy of the 6S or does it have a different personality in some ways? I currently use the 6c with R3 plate and shave every other day. I would like some sort of R3.5 plate, slightly deeper but equally delicate. Could I achieve this with the Model T adjustment? What are the components of the Model T in zamak?

Today i did the first test with Model T Gunmetal.
The razor is perfect in each detail and all the moving parts work without problems. The gunmetal finish is perfect and well made. I'm a lover of the 6C R3 plate and for this reason i started my usual 3 pass shave setting 3.5 on Model T. I used a Gillette Wilkinson Saloon pack made in India at the third use. The shaving was smoother than R3 and also deeper, the razor itself Is well balanced. This was the First contact but i can see a little spark who will ignite the love's Fire.

Congrats on the acquisition. It's a good razor the Model T. Gets a bit of a raw deal as it is priced rather high for what is being offered in the shave world today. Even though zamac parts are at a minimum, blade adjusting tray I believe, everything else is of quality alloy construction. I personally think it's the superior shaver vs the 6s in terms of shave performance. We know the 6s will outlast the Model T by a few centuries.

Anyways, enjoy your shaves.... :okay:

Test numeber two
This morning i decided to use the Model T with this setting:
-4.0 WTG
-3.5 for XTG and AT
I used it with a Gillette Wilkinson Saloon Pack at the 4th use, Omega Evo and Saponificio Varesino Manna di Sicilia Beta 4.3.
One of my most beutiful shaving since I Discovered this world three years ago.
Gentile, smooth and deep.
The AS, Pino Silvestre Black Musk ( an italian classic) didn't bite...
Only three words :a wonderful razor.
