Road Trip to Devon and Cornwall

630 miles of serious up and down in seriously scenic surroundings (and the occasional glimpse of the sea from time to time). Then a bit more up and down. A touch more up and down and finally a bunch more...you know what.

Eighteen years ago I was (a) daft enough to be talked into - and (b) actually physically capable of doing....the Pennine Way in one, three week, hit. And that was only 270 miles.

Anyone who can do the SW Coast Path has my admiration.

I still reckon the nicest reasonable distance walk was the Dales Way. Manageable and lovely in all aspects I rate that one highly. (provided it doesn't rain all week).
Yep, lots of up-and-down! Possibly less of a nuisance than being midged to death on the Cape Wrath Trail.

Ah, but I'll venture not as bad as being minged to death by the local harridans on the life threatening back lanes between Attleborough and Wramplingham on the one day of the year that they let the accursed womenfolk of the region out to search for, and mate with, eligible males of the species from the vicinity. Truly a horrific experience for even the most battle hardened onlooker.

I wouldn't dream of allowing you to be exposed you to that sort of thing. I'll reserve that for the very worst of my debtors and enemies.

You are talking to one who has lived through and survived many years of the Buckley Jubilee.
The first Tuesday of July and more commonly known to locals as no knickers night

Sorry Kevin,
In those days you needed to get your photos developed and these I am afraid would have been far too disturbing.

My mate in Chelmsford is dead keen on moving to West Kirby on the Wirral. Maybe within the next 12 months or so.

I'll tell him about the event as it doesn't look all that far away. That'll please him.

Then he shall need to learn a few things before moving anywhere near Merseyside.
Firstly the main phrase to learn is 'calm down calm down.
Secondly there is only one key on the keyboard and that is a, aaaaaaa

Well, we spent last night in Exmouth. Quick dip in the sea and watched the dinghy and wind sailing. Excellent meal at a restaurant called 'Les Saveurs', which I'd highly recommend. I went for a 5k jog along the front early this morning and watched a Life Saving competition being set up with plenty of hungover-looking lifeguards emerging from tents and campervans. Not entirely sure how the competition itself will work. Visions of someone swimming out and pretending to drown.

Breakfast in a drizzly Torquay this morning. We were going to visit Buckfast Abbey but the sun seems to be coming out to play...

This evening: Brixham.
