Restaurant carry out boxes

I was at quite a smart restaurant last night, my partner left some of her food and she was asked if she would like a carry out box to take what was left home. The food was quite tasty being battered fish, a little fragrant perhaps and was dry, if I had a dog then I might have been tempted.

Is this a new thing for the UK, I have been been offered this sort of box in the US for pizza but a new idea for me in England.

If I was carrying something smelly out of a restaurant then I would hope for something special when I got I home and with more enthusiasm than taste.

They would rather have you haul it away so they have less food waste to deal with.

Always been offered a take away box when eating out and have left overs. Its smart marketing IMO and good customer service - aftercare.
