Yes, Rest in Peace. She did her duty steadfastly for a very long time till the very end. You can't ask for more. My wife and I will miss the very close ties to Canada she fostered. It really is like a member of the family died.

I hope not, I interpret the Commonwealth as another word for friendship and support and a separate concept to Goverment. I have the greatest respect for the countries that Canada and New Zealand have become and hope that they will always have a direct link to the UK.

Sad day in this household, the fact that this was inevitable does not mean that it is any more palatable.

I could not say what Canada will do. Personally, I hope not. My generation is slowly disappearing and I have no clue what the younger generations think on the subject.

I don't live in Australia or New Zealand so cannot comment on that.

As for King Charles III, all I can say is Mommy will be a very hard act to follow and I hope he is up to it. Personally, I do not feel as close a connection to the new King but that could change over time.

Chucky III has the right idea with a smaller Royal footprint, and he's not trying to fill the shoes of his mother. It's a new way for a new day.

And the new PM Truss has made a strong start, I think the future of the UK is looking just fine.

Very sad, sombre mood in this household. We've lost the only monarch we've ever known, even the most staunch republican must acknowledge what an extraordinary woman she was. I can't see King Charles III (it will be a long time before that sounds right) being held in such regard as she was.

The main point of a Constitutional Monarch is to uphold the Law. No Royal Assent is to be given to anything unlawful or unconstitutional. However no Sovereign/Monarch since William IV has given assent to any act of parliament, thus making them invalid, null & void. They say assent has been given in the Lords, but this has not happened, only the Crown can sign bills in to Law. So from day one every Monarch since William IV has not upheld their primary role. Will Charles be any different?
