Review Razorock Mamba.

Before returning to the world of Open Comb razors I gave the new RR Mamba one more outing. This time I began just like I was using a Single Edge or the Durham Duplex and put the cap on my face, handle almost perpendicular to the surface of my face and simply kept that orientation. Almost no pressure and shave with my full arm.

The result was a two pass and touchup PDG+ near perfect shave, effortless and comfortable. Alum felt cold and still tastes bad but zero signs of irritation and there was almost no post alum skin stretching places left I could play with...but I kept looking.

The soap for today is the Orange Blossom & Jasmine from Above the Tie and continuing the floral theme a citrus, rose and patchouli aftershave from Chatillon Lux. The brush is a RazoRock 400 Finest Badger.

The RazoRock Mamba will not be something that the Feel The Steel folk will enjoy but it is certainly a very efficient, very comfortable tool when married to the right handle for you.

I have yet to pull the trigger on this one as I did not get along with the Baby Smooth.

I believe you will find this razor to be a better shaver than the Baby Smooth. Of course, YMMV.

I have to say this is one of the few razors in my den with which I can perform a fully ATG finally pass without weepers or irritation. First pass is always mild feeling so with this razor I tend to go for XTG (East to west) XTG (West to East) then ATG on my third pass. Great results !

For smooth and forgiving and super mild but efficient, the RazoRock Old Type is really hard to beat and with a head available for only $8.00 it has to be very close to a no brainer.

Mamba (Halo handle), Super Max BDT. With two shims the Mamba is still a very mild razor but managed just fine a two pass plus BBS head shave which is what I expect from a mild razor. Next head shave will try without the shims.

You could also try loosening the handle ever so slightly (maybe quarter of a turn) it should lift the blade off the base plate more but still keep most of it pretty well clamped. In theory, at least - my Mamba is still on the way. It works reasonably well with other razors with a similar head geometry.

Does anyone have a blade gap measurement? It looks minimal.

If you are one of those "Want to feel the steel" razor lovers then it's not for you; but if you want super efficient, super comfortable, super fast near perfect shaves then this is the one for you.

I sold mine. Very mild, but not efficient enough for me. Too much buffing to reach BBS.

Mine shall arrive next Saturday from a friend from a forum! As he already has a Rockwell 6s, he decided to sell it to me!

Received mine yesterday and shaved with it after a Barbicide soak.
I didn't have high hopes for it, as it seems to be very close to the Baby Smooth in design and it took me a while to find the right combination of blade and technique to use with it. However, the first shave was excellent. It seems to be a razor that favours riding the top cap a fair bit, very much like GEM/injector razors, and I prefer it that way. I quite like that the tabs are covered. Pairs well with a Feather blade.
The shave itself reminds me of the FaTip Testina Gentile. The geometry is a bit different, but both a re mild and fairly efficient, the Mamba more so.
It reminds me a lot of the Rocnel SE-P CC and Supply Provision's The Single Edge v2 in blade feel and efficiency.
I need to get more shaves under my belt, but I'm very happy with the initial results.
I got the iKon SBC prior to yesterday's shave, also in time for a shave then. The angles are more variable, than the Mamba's, plus the SBC has two levels of aggressiveness, but I also find it better when using a very shallow angle. While I preferred riding the top cap as well, the angle variability was quite welcome for my neck. It makes the Mamba an easier shaver in comparison, but the SBC can be more efficient. I like them both.

I've used my Mamba twice since it arrived and I really enjoyed it. I also used an MJ-90 for the first time last night as well. I can't get over how Razorock are able to make quality razors such as these for such a cheap price.

Do you have the old MJ-90 or the newer one with the A base plate?

Too right.

I've got one of the newer MJ-90's with the two plates.

I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not but I'm really pleased I pulled the trigger on one when they arrived in the UK this week.
