Been using it for a couple of months, sourced it on Amazon - not cheap. I’ve even decanted it into a small pot to take away when on a trip. Does what it says on the tub, makes the face nice and slick, lovely stuff, I never shave without it.

@chazt At the time of looking, I could only get the 300ml size in the menthol. I figured I’d get the biggest size pot as I wasn’t going to skimp on how much I used. Will look out for the others when I come to replace it

Thanks for the tip, I’m not sure it’s available directly from sellers in the UK. Always happy to try something new. Your suggestion actually made me look for it as I’d seen mention of it before but didn’t know what it was.

I have used Proraso Eucalyptus & Menthol Pre Shave quite a bit when i first got back into DE shaving and its very enjoyable to use, but i am not convinced it adds much to pre-shave face conditioning beyond what a simple soap and hot water face wash does.

Over time i have become convinced that pre-shave products are not actually necessary and there are many ways to soften that stubble using just what you find in the bathroom normally.

That’s interesting. I’ve been trying other stuff from body oils to hair conditioner. I found that as soon as the shaving brush is put to work on a face slicked up with hair conditioner, it just disappears and does nothing for me. The oil - clearly not meant for the face, doesn’t really have the impact of the Proraso pre-shave. Been looking for Shea butter / Argan oil type products in local supermarkets, but have been unsuccessful in finding something as yet.

In the past I've used pears hand soap as a pre shave. 100% glycerine.

That’s helpful and cheap - definitely worth a try.

You can even boost your lather with it.

Agreed with @Randy and @Zorro about the efficacy of the pre shave treatments. I use the P-Red preshave strictly for the scent of it The best way to prep your whiskers imo is to face lather with a properly loaded and hydrated brush.
