Pre between passes?

I wondered if it was worth reapplying preshave between passes? Or would I be wasting my effort and product?

I have done that using a Feather AC SS & super pro blades. It makes a difference using that kind of combo.
With a d/e it's maybe a bit of a waste of product if you are using a decent soap.
I don't use a pre shave at all these days though. Saying that I do have some Proraso Red & White pre-shave in my den that I might try again.

Just thinking, I use a glycerin soap. Wouldn’t another layer of soap after the first pass accomplish the same or similar to an oil pre shave.

I agree with you, but for most people, yes. In my case, for example, if i put a tiny bit of Proraso Red preshave on my trouble area before applying lather, it's a major difference, especially when using a half DE shavette. However, i didn't try it between passes, will do with the next shave and share here. As always, i note here that everyone's skin and beard are different, so each to their own.

Just curious - what sort of a difference does it make?
What I'm wondering is whether it seems to soften the hair for you, provide some extra slickness, protect your skin from drying out there or maybe something else?

I’m a big fan of Jagger’s pre shave and use it with a hot flannel. I think it does make a bigger difference when using a straight razor - a bit more glide I’d say - but less of a difference with a guarded razor. I’m not sure it would help after the first pass as you’ve already removed most of your whiskers so glide is much easier anyway.

I think it gives extra protection from the blade, because it feels less harsh when passing on those areas, and the aftershave gives the same amount of light and short sting as on the rest of the face.
@UKRob i think it might help in cases of multi-directional or circular growth of hair, and i have the first mentioned, just right to my Adam's apple, where i do use the preshave. Not much difference on other areas, though.

As i have said, i tried it between passes. No differece to no preshave betweeen passes, so it's basically a waste of pre-shave, at least with the red Proraso, i don't know if another product like an oil might work better... And speaking of the Proraso red, i felt a bit of stinging when i aplied it after the first pass, so the composition probably isn't quite suitable to be aplied to the skin after it had contact with a razor. So i'll keep using it before the firs pass, but not between passes. Not worth the hassle, and, as i've said, unnecessary waste of product.
