Peening

I am currently using pins and washers from Revisor Solingen when peening straight razors. Not an ideal solution if you ask me as I am constantly having trouble making blade open and close smoothly. It takes forever, tap, tap, tap, pins will mushroom but I suspect the cupped washers are the culprits not easily giving proper hold against the scales. So thinking of moving to traditional peening with brass pins and washers but need forum advice on good DIY videos covering this subject, especially interested in best way to work on the starting side of pins.

It seems like brass rod is easy to find in Sweden but for number 0 brass washers I might have to shop from micro fasteners over on the other side of the pond.

To make a clean cut you could get side cutters like those use in bicycle shops to cut spokes. Also a pin vise to hold rod while peening the start end or a drill chuck, removed from the drill, will do too. There are all sorts of tricks to peening.
