When I was a kid in the Sixties.. hippies didn't drink beer... we called them juiceheads... just weed.

We did beer and weed, and liquor when we could get it.

I also remember, through the righteous haze, taking a dim view of alcohol generally at the time. Somewhat to my own surprise I somehow have reached an age where every time I see this topic title in the listing I mistakenly parse it, almost wistfully, as a very different issue ...

Honestly, I don't use a hammer for tightening pins anymore.. Too much bending... nowadays I lightly tap with a soup spoon...

What was the weight of your peening hammer? I use a 4oz. hammer and haven't had a problem. A buddy of mine just switched to a 2oz. peening hammer and he really likes it. I've heard of people using spoons before, but how do you form the pin into a dome shape with a spoon?

I use the spoon just for tightening... not forming.

does it need to be a special spoon? weight Wise I don't think I have a selection in the nursing home I'll just have to take whatever spoon they have but I might could get a bigger one they use in the kitchen

When I'm working with the 1960's Solingen cup washers (the pins tend to be perfectly flat) I use the flat head on my hammer to tighten things up. I'm curious, how do people know they're bending the pin unless the wind up cutting the pin to remove the razor from the scales for some reason or another? I've noticed the old Bokers almost always have bent pins.

this is funny, I asked the same thing. Mike knows pretty much everything and rather than come to the forums I just asked him because I was writing him anyway LOL and my question was how do you know a pen is bent if you can't see it he hasn't got back to me yet

The only way I would know is if the razor didn't open and close properly, and even then, it could be something else, like loose pins, warped blade or scales, etc.
