The neighbourhood barber shop in India (well Kolkata anyway) can be a focus point for the community, and with Covid19 everything's been shut. As much as those guys need to get back working for their livelihood's, they also need to get back working for the sake of their communities.

I am in Jamshedpur, about 260km off westside from Kolkata. You are right about the barbershops serving as a community hub here. But this city is almost in middle of nowhere and nothing like big metros you'd see. Even for me some activities are rather new. My barber is an old man, little eccentric and doesn't like crowds; had set up his 'shop' away from main area. A rickety chair, a little travel mirror hung on nail at tree trunk and his bag of tool hung on another. As a new resident here one day I noticed him on my morning walk and he was all set up to welcome his first customer by 5:30 am!! That was unlike anywhere in Delhi or Bombay but I liked the idea of having a shave at 6:30 on way back home with a proper cut throat razor with trees all around and cool breeze. He doesn't use straight razor everyday but that is his special gesture with me. He seems indifferent about crowds, which at his age is understandable. Being not very social is not a negative since he doesn't seem to care much about what he is paid by many of his customers.
I agree Black Ninjas being top of heap. I have used them ever since I started shaving.

Only ten of you good people interested in this soap! I can hardly beleive it!
If you've used Valobra before you know how good it is and if you haven't this may be your last chance to get your hands on a puck of this wonderful soap.

In the grand scheme things not a million miles far from where I have some family (but still quite far). A great story about your barber, and it's some of the finer details (the mirror on a tree trucks, the breeze, being indifferent to crowds) which make the story an enjoyable one to read, thanks for sharing it.

Excellent soap with no BS.

Needs blooming to perform but the result is a glossy, dense lather, slickness is close to A&E for me.

I have the Fougere. The scent is from an Italian bidet. Fortunately, it doesn't linger..

An Italian French bidet of a brothel in its full glory would be a much more accurate scent description.

Even the Unscented smells like the butter you forgot out of the fridge for days and now you have to throw it away because not only it is useless but it also stinks.
Unfortunately, all Valobras had that off-putting tallow scent.

The performance was very good, even though they dried out my skin a bit. I won't miss them.
