Just for argument's sake, let's say England and Canada started the war resulting in prices escalating. Would it still be the right thing and time to do what has been done? I think not. No, what is necessary is to support the unsupportable regardless of the cost of human life or human harm. This is necessary to somehow convince yourself that you are still correct in whom you chose to support.
I am truly sorry. There is an idea that I think about often and that is of doing the right thing the wrong way which, in turn, never turns out the way you planned, or in this case, never planned at all. Even the idea of unintended consequences does not fit, because there was no intent. However, Edward Deming's process philosophy certainly is applicable, "your processes are perfectly designed to give you the results you got".
