To be fair, the new large language model powered chat bots are generally a fair bit better than the previous generations that used simpler neural networks or other approaches.
They also aren't too bad at summarising larger amounts of text data. A human might still be able to do better, but they crunch through texts way faster.
Generative AI isn't producing stuff without issues, but it can be useful for quickly producing things for backgrounds and such.

That's probably more to do with whoever authored the prompts rather than the AI itself.

There are likely to be new jobs that are going to be paid worse, and some (fewer) that are paid better.
Also some without an alternative route, unfortunately.
I think some of the unrest is also caused by the change itself.
I'm not trying to make light of it, just trying to say that there's a bit more to it and it won't necessarily be all gloomy, just as well as it won't be painless.

It is not at all gloomy if you are some of the few who are elevated monetarily by the change. Unfortunately, the majority have suffered monetary reduction by the change. The change has left more people today who find it difficult to impossible to make ends meet than ever before. The change itself has resulted in the unrest we see today. When you don't have a large enough middle class who are mostly contented and believe they still can improve their situation, you have instability in a country.

Nah ! ... There will be as much work, or more, than there ever was.
It will just be different work, as all the AI, Robots and automated processes will require much more maintenance than us self-learning, self-repairing, multi-fuel adaptable humans ever do.
They will need to be taught how to do stuff, updated on a regular basis, cleaned, oiled, swapped out for newer models and swapped over for different ones.
Your robot butler will need knee and hip replacements in old age, as it gets slower and stiffer.

Confirmation bias is a greater threat than artificial intelligence, at least in the short term.
The capacity to think critically and be unpredictable can save us from coming to believe only sources that agree. This is true for all human intelligence and institutions.
No place is this more prevalent than collecting forums where we are beguiled into amassing stuff because others are amassing stuff which makes its seem rational.

Companies will not have to carry employees whose sole job it is to update, clean, oil and swapping out. That can be jobbed out to companies who are called in to do that when needed. You can add those to the employees let go because of AI and automation made their jobs redundant. The same can be said for engineering departments and payroll as most of that can be outsourced too. Before any of the future shock scenarios could happen we would need actual capable of critical thinking AI, as opposed to what we have now which is essentially a glorified search engine.
Although I would be happy if they could create an AI tool to automatically accept the stupid cookie warning boxes that the EU thoughtfully foisted upon us.
