On my 21st birthday I over indulged in Harvey Wallbangers (vodka, Galliano and orange juice), the in drink at the time. To this day (+half a century later) I can’t stand mixed drinks, Galliano or orange juice; however, I still enjoy vodka, especially Titos or Polish potato vodka. I drink hard liquor straight up, eg. gin or vodka martinis, Canadian and Irish whisk(e)y straight up and dark rum straight up.

He’ll be 79 years old in a few months and regardless, even if he doesn’t use a cane, he’s old. I’m not a fan and never was, but am respectful of the office he’ll occupy. It’s his prerogative. He won the election by every metric, and no matter what we think of the individual (or his policies) + or -, it’s the office that deserves respect. That’s just how I was raised and what I believe.

I've been reminded of a question asked on a essay test in college to define happiness. My answer was an assimilation of happiness producing conditions as if I was trying to define happiness for everyone. In his new book, On Freedom, Timothy Snyder writes that happiness is produced by what we value. He also discusses the difference between freedom from and freedom to. In other words, I am free when I do not have to help others rather than I am free when helping is an option for exercising what I value. If this sounds interesting, I recommend the book. Amazon has it presently for $22 hardback. I am currently reading the book on loan from the library, but I want one for my small, but significant library.
