I had a pair of Clarks Desert Boots with the crepe rubber soles. The Dr. Marten Church Monkey Boots are made well and are comfortable.

Growing up we wore Clarks Desert Boots, which we called veldskoens, all the time. Recently, I was looking at a pair, but decided to try the Allbirds Wool Runner-up Mizzle Plus, which are similar in style to a desert boot. I already own 3 pairs of Allbird low-cut shoes and find them very comfortable and good walking shoes.

Back when I was on the lifeboat the boathouse overlooked a carpark. One day there were a couple of teenage lads sitting in a car there and one of them upended a portion of chips, wrappers and all out of the car window. Unfortunately for him our local PC was in having a coffee, one of us remarked on it and she shot downstairs. Watching her make him get out of the car and pick up the wrapping and every single chip was deeply satisfying.
