Bloody GP’s ! Tried to book an appointment last week and my Apple Watch recons I may have sleep apnea. Not been sleeping well and been waking up exhausted, low energy, headaches and the Apple Watch sees breathing disturbances. My GP only works two days a week and I need to ring in to try and get an appointment. That aside on looking at the MyCare app he has looked at my records and decided with out speaking to me that I don’t need to go on the thinners the hospital said I needed to start taking when I reached 60 ! Strange do a consultation with out me present, but there you go.

Also appears the cardiac clinic have put me on a waiting list for a review. Rather see them than my GP.

No doubt it will be a struggle to see my GP re sleep apnea. My GP surgery is very limited now for in person appointments and haven’t gone back to pre Covid ! All too easy for a GP to work from home now.

How is he billing without consultation? Is it possible to change to another GP?

I think I know which one is closer to the truth, and I are from Canuckistan. Sometimes it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. OTH, imo there is a big difference between seemingly pulling numbers out of one's posterior and being a legitimate recognized pollster.

For example, one may have faith they can learn to play a musical instrument or learn to fly fish. Only those who go past the door that faith opens actually do anything. Many listen to opinions and have faith they are being told the truth. Only those that question the opinion discovers knowledge.

The other night I saw a YouTube advertisement that Caterpillar was introducing a pickup next year.

I hope for the sake of your good health that you‘re able to address the potential sleep apnea sooner than later. I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea 21 years ago and thankfully have found great relief from cpap therapy. Coincidentally, I have a follow up appointment with the sleep apnea doctor in just a few weeks. Seems Medicare has an issue with billing as it relates to physician recertification of medical necessity. It always comes back to insurance companies and the overworked medical system, doesn’t it?

All too easy for a GP to work from home now

Sorry to hear of the sleep troubles and of your experiences with the NHS!

Just to stick up for our GPs, primary care here is essentially broken and has been for a long time. The ‘family doctor’ image of the GP that people have in mind is long gone.

To clarify, my wife - a GP - cannot and does not run her clinics from home! She’s in the surgery from 7.45am to 6.30pm seeing more patients than ever before. In the evening, she works from the kitchen table for another hour or two doing the increasingly-burdensome ancillary work - such as online services - that are not built into their schedules during working hours.

It’s a profession that’s in a very bleak place.

Obviously there are many dedicated Dr’s like your wife and no doubt her patients appreciate her, at least I do hope so.

What you may be experiencing is that the roles that the GP used to perform are being replaced by an alphabet soup of allied health professionals. Typically, the more straightforward cases are triaged to nurse practitioners, paramedics, physicians associates etc. This also means that the typical complexity of a GP’s clinic is much higher than it was several years ago.

Your GP only working two days a week at that practice is not unusual. Most salaried GP are part-time because the pay does not justify the conditions of working on the frontline full-time. Some salaried GPs choose to top up by locuming, Out Of Hours, for private providers (e.g. Nuffield) etc - not necessarily because they are better remunerated but because doing so is more sustainable.

I found the link to Fox News on a Google search. I also recognize how heavily biased Fox News is. I guess they do occasionally do articles like the one in the linked to keep critics at bay. I try very hard to read different media and recognize which way they lean and how heavily so. If you confine yourself to one source for information it becomes like reading the old soviet Pravda or the Volkisher Beobachter in Nazi Germany as your only source.

Note that journalists are murdered for exposing corruption, crime and political double dealing.

This is why they are essential to the maintenance of a free society. This is also why they are hated by dictators, big businesses and any oppressive heads of state who don’t want to hear real truth and not just their own lies and “alternative facts”.

Given the depressing polarisation of society, conspiracy theory cranks and general (unintended) ignorance, we need them more than ever.
