The cord wrapped around the handles looks like the whipping we used to do on rope. Could be what is called a Common Whipping.

Thank you sir! I couldn't do the lettering on the last one, some of it is way to shallow, I'm afraid I would lose some of it in the process.

Heads up.
I bought three of these just for the knots.
I knew they weren't the good ones (old, vintage) because they had a UPC, so I wouldn't feel bad about tearing them apart. Probably 1980's stuff.
This is an old one.
Notice how the dyed boar are dyed all the way through.
These newer ones are dyed around the outside only.
I needed a 20mm knot so I knocked down the outside of the base on a bench grinder.
Needs a little cleanup, but it's good!
These things also have a big glue bump, very unlike the old ones, but that's ok, just gives them even more backbone.
