Spent part of afternoon helping our Community Speed Watch group leader put up a new camera.

These are not the ones that flash and get you nicked. These are set to record anyone speeding but the data is recorded by our local co-ordinator and then referred to the Police, in the same way as anyone we “catch” when doing our roadside sessions.

The Police then send a letter to the registered keeper, advising them they have been speeding. If their name comes up three times, they receive a visit from a uniformed officer in a police car.

We have found that, over time, the combination of roadside checks and camera monitoring, average speeds have decreased.

Our objective is to increase safety, not, bust speeders and is undertaken with the authority of our local Force, Humberside Police.

I liked the story of some drinkers in an Irish pub.

One looks out the window, 'hey, fellas come and look at this!'

Twelve faces with their noses pressed against the glass and they are shocked, the most sober man shouts out, 'Quick, lock the door, call the police'

'Hello, Police? There is a giant lion on the loose, send the police, send the army, we need helicopters, fast as you can, children are going to be torn limb from limb in seconds, send help, we are in the Union Bar on the High Street and we ain't moving, it is six feet tall, massive teeth and has a roar like, well, a lion, huge thing.

They rushed back to the windows to give good directions to the Police as soon as they arrive, 'Tommy, keep an eye on Leo, those wild animals can be unpredictable'.

One policeman arrived and found this beast.

Appointment with the sawbones yesterday about blood pressure.

Long story short, it’s higher than it should be so have been proscribed pills, for life. Also, I have to monitor for another six days, plus ECG, blood and wee tests; then a follow up appointment in 6 weeks.

What he did say was my ‘lifestyle’ of long term vegetarian, never smoked and light drinker has kept me healthy so far and on balance I should live til I’m 90.

Once again, I must thank our wonderful and beleaguered NHS for their hard work!

They said the same to me about smoking and drinking, I would be in a worse state if I had made some different choices.

My uncle had bowel cancer at 56, was told by the surgeon that if he continued with his red meat diet that he would soon be back. He did as he was told and lived to be 92.

Best wishes Steve.

Got to hitch for a couple of "shopping" trips this weekend... nothing overly fun but it was nice to not be staring at the same walls or out the same windows...

Seen everything now.

I am a sucker for things in season, not just vegetables straight from the field but cakes and biscuits according to tradition, Simnel cake at Easter, parkin at autumn, and so on. It is a Christmas tradition that we have stroopwafels with a pot of coffee, these are the Dutch crispy biscuits with caramel, perfect with coffee.

Now they have cannabis stroopwafels.
