Just curious if any other members are keen hikers or enjoy mountain climbing? I'm looking for some inspiration having completed a few treks and climbed several mountains.

A 65-year old man, and his 60-year old wife slipped on wet rocks and fell to their deaths at Arches National Park last week, how's that for inspiration?

I used to do a fair amount of backpacking in the Adirondack Mountains in NY and the White Mountains in NH. But that was when I was much younger. I just had a physical the other day and I'm now pre-diabetic and obese, at least technically speaking. Maybe I need to get back out there and climb some mountains. Dying from falling off a mountain might be far better than dying the death that I may be headed for if I don't get off my arse and do something about it.

I have Dartmoor on my doorstep and there's some great walks around here:

If you're feeling fit, you could also try the 8 hour 'Royal Marines 30 Miler':
