Monsavon - Bol à Raser

Monsavon is the French equivalent of the Palmolive stick in the UK, price-wise, around €1.30 in most supermarkets. It is usually the soap to begin with when it comes to wet shaving. Also true that the fragrance is a polarising mix of cinnamon and lavender.

Beside Le Père Lucien's recipe (if Monsavon fragrance is unbearable), we like to leave new Monsavon soaps/pucks to dry, so that it will shrink (if patient, volume can decrease down to 50%) and noticeably harden; most of the time, this process considerably improves lathering when adding water.

I remember my first times with Monsavon, it took me half a dozen shaves to master lathering this soap (lots of water usually did the trick).

I have just looked at my puck which does appear to have dried out somewhat. Was think of pouring some warm water on top and just leaving it to expand for maybe 24 hours and then to use along with MWF and DRH Windsor in rotation for a month. What say ye ?

Gave this another run today with the Model T and a 2nd use Polsilver. Basically had the best shave in a long time. One of those WOW moments. I still find this different to use and lather up than other soaps but got right into it with a boar and all was good to whip up in the dog's bowl. Purposely did not use balm after and an hour later the post shave feel was excellent. £3.23 on Amazon is a steal still. Although I see that they were buying 3 for that price back in 2017.

Edit. - and there are also some bad reviews as they only got one when three were expected

Just got two more myself. The post shave feel in particular really surprised me. I'd struggle to tell the difference between this and any of the top artisans I've used in terms of how my skin felt afterwards.

Just had another superb shave with this soap. Lathered it up heavy in my new boar brush and had two great passes. It remains a slick soap that punches well above its weight. Scent I’m indifferent to, but not offended by it.

You guys are really stirring up a sense of mystery around this soap. This is breaking down my resistance. My last purchase of Speick on you guys' advice was spectacularly successful.

I can't leave mine alone ( oo, er missus) seriously I literally have to force myself to use something else. I have about 3 shaves left from my first tub. It does everything I want a soap to do. Scent isn't a thing for me, I'm following all my shaves with Edt or Edp so strong scents just compete with fragrance, I don't want that. I have 3 more tubs already but am getting 3 more this week. It's bloody awesome stuff.
