Merkur Vision 2000 Adjustable

To me it feels lighter than the Pils (which is somewhat unbalanced, vey heavy head). The Merkur Vision is an excellent razor. Only a bit bulky under the nose, but even that is less than one would expect.

Let us not forget that back then we did not have the wealth of knowledge and user experience we possess nowadays from all artisan razor available designs.

A decade ago in the adjustables universe it was more or less just the Progress, the more sturdy Futur, and the mighty (and more expensive) Vision - alongside with all the vintage Gillettes of course.

Owned one a few times when they were easily available. Not my thing, didn't enjoy it at all.

Thanks for all your replies guys, very useful. I road tested last night, and I have to say I have to agree that it’s really bulky to use ... whilst the shave was ok, it felt a bit of a chore. Admittedly it’s the first time I have used it. Not sure whether to keep it as a piece of DE shaving history as it’s no longer made, or to sell it on so someone else can get enjoyment out of it:headshake:

I bought the Vision 2000 a few years ago and really liked it but had other razors so put it back in the box and forgot about it as having hard water did not want to use it because of the required cleaning. I Instead used one of my Muehl R41 (2011 version) as it gave a very close shave. I thought about selling the Vision , but recently moved and now have soft water and took it out of its box and gave it a try. I will have to admit that it is one fantastic razor and performs superbly and will provide a shave as close as the R41 with no problem. I would highly recommend the Vision to anyone who wants a superb shave and have soft water as their will not be a problem required constant cleaning. Now decision as to whether sell the Muehl R41 (2011) version or not. I should add that the size of the razor presents no problem for me and no problem shaving under the nose.

Thanks Gundog for your comments. Sadly live in a really hard water area so envisage endless cleaning if I use it regularly .... was thinking offering it for sale ?

Love or hate razor, some sort of. For me it's one of my top 10 razors.
Years ago when I got this I was already experienced shaver and I remember still quite clearly a first moment with this.
This razor gave me truly first wow feeling of all time. It wasn't totally luck because I knew already something about blades, razors, technique etc. Still it was amazing moment for me to feel that WOW. Suprising and didn't expect that at all.
It is a big and long razor. It needs a proper balanced grip to control different angles and passes combinations.
Good blades for vision are feather, voskhod, ladas, polsilver, permasharp. My favorite is Voskhod. I shave fully open V+

The Ugly Duckling isn’t so ugly when it comes to delivering a shave. It’s superb in that aspect and never fails to give a quality & long lasting shave while doing so comfortably and smoothly. A maintenance diva somewhat but, all worth the effort in my humble opinion.
