Guys, I used it today for the first time. Please disregard anything you disagree with. Or set me straight. I’ve face lathered exclusively for the last ten years and don’t know anything about lather bowls, scuttles, pottery in general, bowl lathering, etc.
Despite my lack of experience with such items, the bowl seems beautifully made and has a deep, rich color. It felt quite substantial, but wasn’t uncomfortable to hold, although the lather whipped up quickly, so I didn’t hold the bowl for longer than maybe a minute, tops. I used a brand new Semogue synthetic knot with Mitchell’s Wool Fat. The lather whipped up beautifully.
But I still felt compelled to face lather rather than simply applying the cream. I lIke the concept of face lathering for it’s prep value. I figure the better prepped my stubble, the blade will have an easier time of it. And it’s fun and feels good, too
Despite the attractiveness of the bowl itself, it’s really a pointless possession for my needs. So I washed and dried it thoroughly, then reboxed it. I can’t sell it. It’s orange for one thing. Which may be the most compelling reason. But between shipping and paypal fees it’ll probably cost half of what I paid. Maybe I should just leave it out and put guitar picks and capos in it.
