Maths Homework help!

What I find crazy is the amount of people leaving school with virtually no maths skills at all. I'm now back to being a Learning Support Assistant for a college of 16-18 year olds. On every the other day couldn't work out 226-200. There seems to me to be a big difference between young people leaving school. My son is in his last year with top grade predicted in all subject, Spanish being the lowest predicted but still a C pass. And this lad the other day left school last July ! Other states in the class clearly have issues with maths too.

Wow I was never that bad, wonder why that is.
I was in the top sets at school till year 9, when I turned into a little poop. Also the school anounced that it was closing then, so all the teachers pretty much left and I was the last year to do my gcse's at the school.
Currently I live in an area that I can not afford, for the past couple of years, in order for my son to go to a better school and get a decent education. The down side is I'll have to help with the maths ha.
