Long handle open comb

I have been using a merkur 34c for the last 10ish years. I often find my hand cramping on the tiny handle. So, I want to get a long handle, and want to try open comb. I rarely shave daily, usually every 3-5 days. I do get razor bumps horribly when using a regular disposable razor, but not with my merkur. My budget would be $150. Color doesnt really matter to me, as long as it works well!

I’ve often been drawn to these designs.

Welcome to the forum.

Look for an old Gillette New or Old type and stick a long handle on it. They’re easily found and reasonably priced. I also like the iKon open comb and the GEM Micromatic open comb, aka MMOC.

Good luck.

Much more than three inches is for shaving legs! Men's razors should be around three or less, I've even used a hacksaw to maintain manliness in my razor handles.

If you’ve been happy with how the 34C shaves but just want more room in the hand, I’d seriously look at the Alpha Outlaw within your budget. It’s a noticeable step up in handle length, width and grip, so you won’t get that cramped feeling, and it brings a bit more efficiency without being harsh.
Although it’s not an open comb, it’s a very capable razor that doesn’t punish your skin, so it’ll feel like a natural upgrade rather than a complete change in character.

Welcome aboard! Off the bat, I'd highly recommend the humble Yaqi Mellon double open comb in zinc alloy is an excellent head, and can be paired with whatever handle choice takes your fancy. All this for less than $50. The Mellon is a mild-shaving, well-behaved head.
