I think now that it represents Royal London Gentlemen's Gifts, which made Buckingham Palace shaving cream that I once had. I believe that is why it looked familiar.

It looks like the Royal Warrant. It could literally be goods from anyone holding or at the time of production, held the Royal Warrant. To name a few, would include UK retailers Boots, Marks & Spencer's and Harrods.

Croydon appears in Domesday book (1086). Its Domesday assets were: 16 hides, 1 church, 1 mill, 38 ploughs and 8 acres of meadow. If it wasn't for the couple of new PoundLand Shops on the A23, it would be worth about the same today!

Being that its Croydon, they probably use the ploughs to carve up the 8 acre meadow and turn it into a Soccer pitch at Selhurst Park.

I was going to post but there were a couple of soap makers who used the Royal Coat Of Arms, either as their logo or as a mark to represent they held a Royal warrant. Interestingly it's the Queens Arms on this soap, who would of thought she was a wet shaver!
I'm inclined to believe the same as you chaps, and that it belongs to Royal London Gentlemen's Gifts as they used the un-decorated shield a lot on their products and branding.
