Linkedin & job searches

Hello all,

Looks like it will be getting a bit hot at work at Xmas / New Year. After 20 years service, will need to knuckle down at look at what jobs are out there and prepare a CV etc.

Any experience in ATG land using Linkedin? Seems the modern way of applying directly to advertised jobs and making connections.

I am on the lookout for new opportunities, at the moment, and happen to actively use LinkedIn.

There are interesting job postings, and from what I understand you have to search pretty frequently as well as 'follow' a number of companies/employers/recruiters who may be related to your industry.

By means I am not an expert on LinkedIn advice, and I am sure there may be others out there who will possibly know more.
I use LinkedIn in combination with other resources/job boards (this includes fairly regular contact with specific recruiters).

One of the good things it offers is the variety and breadth of recruiters and companies available.
The disadvantages are a search engine which -to me- could be improved, and the occasional presence of scam/fake recruiters (who appear out of nowhere and claim they have been assigned the task to recruit a team of XX professionals for this XX large corporation).

The mobile version of LinkedIn is (or at least was) to me terrible, and I do not use it at all.
I only log in from my PC at home and never from a mobile device. Last time I did log in from a mobile device I found the platform unstable and highly user-unfriendly.

No experience of LinkedIn, but just to say good luck and all the best. I have my one to one with HR on Friday as my position is now at risk (7 people at my level to become 4 by mid-December) ... 19 years. I'm half holding my fingers crossed for redundancy as I've literally had it up to here, but within change is always opportunity.

Personally when doing my last job hunt linkedin was of little use. The job adverts on linkedin are generally just links to the company website jobs page. Far easier to look at the companies that you know will have jobs in your area, and apply from there. Possibly easier still is the option to ring up some relevant recruiters, who will do most of the leg work for you. CV writing - there are many templates online, but I'm happy to drop you over my template if that would help.

Exactly the same for me Paul. After 20 years, had enough. They can pay me off! Comes a point when a change is needed for both parties. All the best for your meeting!

Funnily enough, my contract ends in May. Have had a quick look at LinkedIn as it was recommended to me - didn't really like look of it so haven't bothered.
