Learning to shave with the Feather Artist Club

Got a Scotchwood SS coming
Nice, my SS is a Scotchwood and it's very nice indeed. I also have a Chinese clone plastic SS. In DX, for some inexplicable reason I have pearl plastic and wooden versions.

If I ever saw a folding Excelia I might bite, but I've never seen one.

They were made - Paul at Connaught offered me first refusal on one he had available but I decided against as I already had the Feather. Give him a call (message) - he may know if there are any around.

Day 47 - Feather Artist Club SS with Schick Proline (two passes)

Continuing with my attempts to use more lateral pressure, I had a successful WTG first pass. The XTG second pass produced a few tiny weepers, and I wasn't feeling the love, so I switched to the SE to finish off.

At the moment, I think tomorrow I will move the Proline into my SE, and persevere with the SS using a Kai guarded blade. When using the lateral pressure, the Proline hasn't really shaved any closer than the guarded blades.

Day 48 - Feather Artist Club SS with Kai Protouch MG guarded

A good shave! That's the first time I've said that.

I've continued with the increased lateral pressure, and in general I've been much more aggressive in attacking my face. On the right-hand side of my face, ATG is some sort of right-to-left going diagonally upwards, most of the way. I tackled this by doing a swooping stroke that comes down from my sideburns and rotates along my jaw, and then another diagonal coming up diagonally from the bottom of my neck to my chin. It's not properly ATG, but it's closer to ATG.

Three passes which were WTG then XTG/ATG then XTG/ATG. Feeling my face now, there are spots where I can detect no stubble, no matter which way I move my fingers. Those are my cheeks and my moustache (but not philtrum) and part of my lower neck. Everything else is mostly acceptable if a little patchy. The worst spot is under my chin, which is weird because I don't really struggle so much there any more, but I do tend to tackle it WTG but aggressively.

If I continue with the SS and pressure, then I'm into making incremental changes to improve the shave in the various parts where it's less close. I'm not confident that that's the right decision. Part of me wonders what the DX would do with a little pressure...

Well done.

I put a new blade in my Dubl Duck today, Personna shaper and binned the Diane blade that was feeling a little dull.
The scraping butter over burnt toast sound really is such a simple pleasure.

Day 8 - Feather Artist Club SS with Feather ProGuard

A full shave today. First pass no problem and okay speed. Second pass slower and the same trouble spots as before. The end result was okay, but not as near as good as with a DE. But, I'm getting there eventually. Tomorrow I will try a new blade (Schick Proline or Feather Professional), but I 'll probably only do the first WTG pass and the rest with a DE.

Day 49 - Feather Artist Club DX with Kai Protouch MG guarded

Not just a good shave, a great shave!

OK, this is obviously a turning point. I used the DX, and applied some lateral pressure. It doesn't make sense, this shouldn't be possible, and shouldn't be desirable. I separated my shaving from my bath, so I didn't have to compete with the noise of the bath running.

I went WTG, XTG and pseudo-ATG. Cheeks are as good as anything I've experienced. Neck is almost as good as anything I've experienced. Moustache and under the lower lip are not quite there yet, but I'm not really going ATG in either of those areas yet.

Some sting from the alum this time though, so definitely not as comfortable.
