Review Lambda Athena de razor

I agree and I love mine. Excellent efficiency for such a mild-feeling razor with zero blade exposure. There are so many impressive details in the design, build, and presentation of this razor. I think this is a true high-end razor, worthy of comparison with any of the very best razors, but also with genuine design innovation and at a price (currently) that seriously undervalues the Athena.

Let me point out some of the details that impressed me. It comes in a beautifully made brass-hinged mahogany box which is probably worth a good portion of the price on its own, without being something that takes a lot of space (normally I hate presentation boxes, but this one adds value). All of the details on the razor, like the engraved lambdas and convex underside of the base plate; the flat textured aerofoil-shaped grips on the handle (which also fit exactly where my thumb holds it); the button on the handle base that is where my little finger naturally rests; the beautifully designed slots in the safety bar that make it behave almost like an open comb but smoother; the way the water shoots so efficiently from the sides when I rinse the head, so my hand and the handle don’t get wet; the extremely firm and close clamping of the blade, and the wonderful hollow sound the razor makes when I shave….they all make this razor feel unique and special. You can see it was made by a professional engineer with a passion for shaving. It came with a two page letter from Theodoros explaining the design intent for the razor, some of the design choices, and details of the razor geometry and manufacture - which also shows you how much love went into this razor. The only thing I think could be improved is to make the handle a bit more grippy.

And I always smile every time I rinse the head under the tap. It’s worth the price just for this clever and fun system that so efficiently shoots the water out of the sides and avoids your hands and the handle getting wet.

It is really a great razor and I would say it’s one of the best high-end razors available today. If you factor in price then there is probably nothing to match it. And for anybody who is interested I suggest to get one now - I have corresponded with Theodoros and he is well aware that he is asking very little money compared to the cost of developing and making this razor, to this standard. I can see this becoming quite an expensive razor to buy in future.

I saw someone over at B&B mentioning they ordered one a few days ago (maybe last week?).
It's even pricier than the bronze ones, while, while somewhat understandable, puts it pretty high up.

Quite a bit milder than the R41 but then most razors I’ve tried are :D
Got it ! Thanks for this. I am very wary of buying any razor these days without trying. To plonk 200 USD on something and finding it out that it is not what I want is becoming more and more difficult to justify :)

How does the compare with a R41? If anyone has used both can shed light
In my opinion it's clear that the R41 was inspiration for Athena, especially when you place them one next to the other. Lambda is like tamed R41 suitable for everyday shave and moving few days of growth. Down the grain you barely feel any blade action and only when you go xtg and atg you do feel blade on skin whereas with r41 you have that constant rough feeling. In my humble opinion lambda is worth every penny.

Thanks for this ! I think I will stay away from the athena then :) I am just amazed as to how efficient and smooth the 41 is! Kudos to muhle for making an absolute cult of a razor and making it affordable for everyone. For about 40 euros, you can get a R41 and if it suits the person, it can truly be a "one and done" razor!

The Athena is an excellent smooth and efficient razor. It has a wider spectrum of angles and can easily be used as a daily shaver. This is in addition to it is just plain beautiful. The Ares is a bit more efficient but just as smooth. Both are superb razors.

I look forward to trying the Ares when they are available again... Theo has me on the wait list. I know the stainlee_steel and titanium razor batches will be reading in a few weeks. I'm not sure about the standard marine bronze, which is what I'm getting. I love the Athena so much... I have two of them.... one for each son when I exit the planet.
