Any palm latherers out here? When I first started shaving a long time ago I bowl lathered and did that for more than 40 years. Now I face lather about 95% of the time.

I often start building the lather on the cake/puck, and finish it on my face, but don’t think that’s your boggle, Bob. How exactly do you find that face—bowl lather gets muddled up? I would think most people know to distinguish their face from a bowl... It’s like muddling up ‘football’ and ‘handball’; you should be grossly incompetent or ignorant not to be able to distinguish?
On a cake/puck of soap you are loading the brush, not really building a lather. The building a lather is done on your face for face lathering. Alternately you can load the brush on a cake/puck of soap, go to a bowl/scuttle to build the lather which you then spread on your face for bowl/scuttle lathering. It is when people use the terms bowl/scuttle and face lathering together that it gets muddled.

Allow me some contrarianism, then
If that’s what the shaving bible says, colour me atheist. Why can’t people combine? They would presumably know that they combine, given knowledge of what constitutes a face and what constitutes a bowl (of some sort), or palm or what have you, for that matter. Moreover, with Mystic Water soaps, one frequently observes the advice to build the lather on the puck/in the tub. In other words, to keep at it beyond the loading process, adding water, etc.
Reminds me of a TSD member’s motto: “it’s your shave, enjoy it your way!”
There is nothing wrong with loading the brush even more by adding water when you are on the cake/puck of soap. I do that to try and ensure I have enough soap loaded on the brush to do 4 passes without having to go back to the puck/cake for more soap to finish my shave. Even then when you go to your face you start to build the actual lather you will be ultimately shaving with. Shaving bibles I do not believe in as you must do what works for you and clear definitions have nothing to do with shaving bibles but with clarity.Allow me some contrarianism, then

Yup, but the lather you make in the bowl needs no more work you just spread it on your face with a brush. Going directly to your face to make the lather you will use is face lathering. It all ends up on your face either way.
You could just as easily ask why is there cross country skiing and downhill skiing as they are all done on skis.

I've never done this myself but I know one person irl that does this. Claims building lather and cleaning the sink simultaneously is just efficient.
Obviously, what you say here is obvious. However, in my case it is true as well in the sense that when painting hte bowl-built lather on my face, I find I only use that lather as a basis for facelathering. The act of massaging the prebuilt lather into my two-day beard is basically the same as building the lather on the fce directly, making bowllathering an unnessecary extra step, only useful when it is really cold and the bowl is a nice and warm scuttle, or when it is really warm and the scuttle is filled with icewater.

I am a face latherer because it works for me, but maybe those who make a bowl lather and then exfoliate have a better method.....
