How do you do it? Shave everyday...

I used to hate shaving and often had irritation on the neck. Now I look forward to shaving (and like Morpheus) and would happily do it multiple times a day. The breakthrough came when I started straight shaving. A sharp and clean blade prevented irritation and infections, the use of a brush & nice soap added to the experience. I wish I had started earlier.

Back when shaving was a chore I use to shave in the morning prior work. Hated it.
When I started wetshaving I began to do it each evening after everyone goes to bed. Peaceful and relaxing time of the day, hearing the blade hitting the hairs and contemplating about the days passed. Falling further into the hobby I started buying more and more soaps so I was shaving each day with new stuff just to try everything. It was growing into something else. Then it reached a peak and dropped. I lost interest in trying stuff, in taking pics, in checking videos etc, started skipping days to abt 3 shaves a week.
Currently, I am shaving 5-6 times a week, when I feel like shaving I shave and enjoy it, when I don't feel like it, I skip it and I am very happy how that is going.

I am pretty new, but I already changed to a 2-pass shave, across and against because it just felt a little tedious. I know it can be peaceful and enjoyable, but I also have some things I want to do and I can't justify spending nearly 30 minutes on a shave. However, when I was using cartridges I wouldn't shave everyday, but maybe 5 days a week, but now I'm at a solid 6 days and I like the results I get.

No way I’d spend 30 minutes to shave even using a straight razor. I do a WTG followed by ATG.

I wasn’t expecting much this morning from the edge I had created some time back, but it did very well and I’m pleased with the results.

Each morning I expect to spend 3-5 minutes shaving. I use the same razor, blades and soap for years at a time. Only reason to look for something new is when an item is no longer available. I stock up on the products I use and prefer to have a ten year supply on hand if possible. At one point I purchased 1000 Feather blades. At 4-5 shaves per blade I had 10+ years supply. Got a great deal on volume and don't need to spend time purchasing more often.

I know this is not how most people on the forum think about shaving. I enjoy shaving and getting great results. If I get a great shave and do it as efficiently as possible all the better. Leaves more time to do other things I also enjoy.

Still looking for the ideal brush. Different brushes have traits I like, just not everything in one brush yet.

Pretty much the way I look at things too. I don't hoard intentionally but if stocking up 3000 Polsilver will take the guess work Mickey out for next 20 years, I will stock up and invest the extra time into something else that I like doing.

Well, best shave routine for me is 2-3 days.
Regarding irritation: changing the direction of the pass could improve experience.
My daily routine is:
1. Up-down strokes along the face and neck=WTG on the cheek and mustache/XTG on the neck area due to the direction of stubble growth
2. On the cheeks from the ear to the mustache including (XTG) and on the neck area from left to right (WTG for the neck)
3. Classic ATG movement on the neck and cheeks. (On the neck it is actually XTG)
4.Only on the neck and jaw line right to left (proper WTG for my stubbles)
Alumn block on while I clean hardware. Rinse clean with cold water an apply AS.

Now if I am in a hurry I might do only 1 and 4.
But when going ATG after first step I usually have a mild irritation and sometimes nicks. So the way you make the passes do affect post shave experience.

Another thing I found to improve post shave experience is that SOTN is better then SOTD in many aspects: calm skin in the morning, better post shave experience and feel.
PLUS: Shaving before bed takes away the stress pilled over the day and you can use lotions and in morning the aftershave splash that makes your skin feel much better.

hey so I keep going through stages due to my mental health where I have these dips of no motivation or desire to shave, it's just simply like a burden that need to get it over and done with

Then there's times where I really enjoy it
I'm sure you guys who shave everyday must naturally have your up and down days, how do you push past it and stick to it regardless of your mood?

I usually shave daily or sometimes twice daily, but to be honest I don’t really think about that - If I have a busy day or just don’t feel like shaving, I don’t do it, simply as that! Being a software engineer and not having to be clean shaven for my job is a plus I guess

If you have outside influences that are affecting shaving like that then it’s going to be difficult. All I can suggest is mixing it up, a razor/soap you don’t use much.
Or buy a new razor/soap, nothing better than the anticipation of that.
