How do you decide?

I like to keep my shaves predicable. I select blades on a whim from a varied selection of both vintage and current production blades. Soap on a whim from 4-5 soaps. Rocket HD razors 98% of the time and one of 2 brushes that alternates weekly.

I only have issues with soaps as I don't own a lot of hardware. I open my den and think of what soap too use for couple of minutes. I tried the strict rotation but it doesn't work for me

Like yourself @pimple8 I only have an issue with soaps and with those I usually go on a whim. I do have a few favourites that I enjoy using which means that there are quite a few soaps that get very little use.

I've got far too many soaps, brushes and razors to have any form of a coherent plan. For me, everything is done purely on a whim based purely upon how I'm feeling at the time.

I try to keep all in rotation, but when I must shave day by day then chosing milder options (Hibrid, Rocket, Fatboy, Timeless) When I do not shave 2-3 days RFB or #15, when I want to take some time and do shaving for some special occasion then Deluxe . So it obviously depend from time and occasion

My shaving draw is organized. I have over 30 DE, SE, and injector razors. I use a razor until I change a blade and then go on to the next razor. I have more DE razors than any other kind so I try to alternate as much as possible with DE and other razors. I use a brush for one day and then go on to the next brush. With soaps and creams, I generally use the same product for a week and then pick something else. The only random thing for me is aftershaves. I have quite a few razors and brushes so I don't see the same brush more than once a month. Razors take several months before I use it again.

Razor & blade: used until the blade is binned
Soap: whatever strikes my fancy that day, but sometimes the same for a week
Aftershave: something in the same soap scent family
Brush: I have three types - scrubby, medium-density, & soft. A few days growth? scrubby. Middle of the week: medium-density. After shaving 5 days straight: soft.

I load a blade in a razor and use that razor at least until it is time to bin the blade. Then I may change razors, though I've been using the same black handle Super Speed since September. Soaps, creams, brushes, and after shave is seldom planned. I go with whatever is calling most loudly. If I'm breaking in a new boar brush I'll use it every other day for about 6 or 8 weeks.

Razors & Brushes = rotation. I alternate mild and more aggressive razors plus alternate badger and synthetic brushes.

Soap / Cream = Use favorite soap/cream with new brush, use new soap/cream once when received, only use my Wolf Whiskers soap with a certain Wolf Whiskers brush in rotation. Currently using P&B Pall Mall every day until gone. Need some imagination here.

After Shave: I have GFT Skinfood - Sandalwood. I also have Fitjar Islands Slåtterøy Aftershave Moisturiser - matches my cream.

I go through phases. At this moment I'm in a Gillette Guard phase, I've gone through two cartridges and I'm yet to think of picking up the Futur clone, the OneBlade Core or my Feather Kamisoris.
Soap is used until I'm bored. Castle Forbes was in for little more than a week and I'm now onto AdP shave cream.
I only have two brushes, if I've time on my hands I'll choose the badger otherwise it's synthetic. So the synth probably gets the nod over badger at a ratio of 10:1
Blades are used until done and then binned, more of the same if im happy or switch if bored. I now only have a stock of blades I know well and which I like.
Post-shave is purely whimsical. How the shave went, how my skin feels and the prevailing weather all play a part. It is a sequence of optional extras at the end of the main 'shave': alum (yes/no), Pitralon / Clubman (yes/no), balm (yes/no) and one of usually three EDT/EDP kicking about the bathroom cupboard depending on activity (work/leisure/other).

I only have one postshave and, of my two remaining brushes, I reach for one nine times in ten.

I have ten razors split across two tiers - regulars and occasionals. The regulars are used, well, regularly whereas the occasionals (typically rare or otherwise interesting collection pieces) are used now-and-then. There are about five in each ‘tier’. As they use a variety of blade types, I’ll use a razor for consecutively until the blade drops off.

In terms of soaps, it’s based on a whim. Part of me would like to get into a regular habit but the rest of me likes the variety. I move on the soaps (or indeed soapmakers) that don’t match my very high expectations so that those soaps that I can reach for are guaranteed to bring me joy.

My soaps are grouped by season, although I also have a list of all-season soaps. So I don't have a strict rotation, but the division into seasons helps me narrow down my options.

I also have a good idea of which aftershaves match which soaps the best.

I've noticed that my shaves seem to be better when I stick to a single razor (and blade) for a while. Brushes I pick fairly randomly.
