Homelike Start DE Razor

slapo

It's... alive!
That 1.18mm base plate is just as smooth as the 0.90mm open comb. Very nice, very efficient, too.
And I found I can use the PAA DOC Aluminus top cap with both baseplates, too. :D

The .90 isn’t for me. Now I have to decide if I buy the 1.18 plate once it’s finally available or just sell the razor on

Impressive. What are your most favorite right now?

I have a razor like this, 0.69. I bought it from the first batch. The labels are slightly different. Very soft. If you shave every day, it will work, without irritation. The handle is bad, heavy and slippery, I use another one made of titanium. The razor is good, but not the best.

Don‘t feel so bad about my cheeky assumption regarding razor variety anymore :)

Mine is not quite as exotic, however, in 12 years of DE shaving, you do try the odd razor or 2.

Definitely the more aggressive razors.
Standouts were the Charcoal 2/3, a long handled S/S Lvl 2 would be a joy.
Blackbirds have to be mentioned.
Wolfmans, I’d argue there isn’t a better made razor. They just ooze quality but ultimately neither blade gap I had was right for me.

Hello! What is your opinion? Which gap number on the Start did you find similar to the Timeless 0.68 SB? Thank you!

A quick update on the HomelikeShaving START razor. I was sent a couple of prototype razors in the 1.3 gap plate sizes in both straight bar & open comb configurations. I posted this write up on another forum so, it’s just a copy and paste from there.

Well, shave was done a little while back. Nothing new to say except that it was a super close and fairly smooth shave. The 1.3 is not a huge jump up in blade feel as compared to the Original 1.18 SB but, the efficiency at which the razor and blade combo takes down hair is stunning. A complete 2 pass shave with a slight touch up on the chin and Sir Adam, that’s all she wrote folks. I get a bit more audible blade feedback with the 1.3 and the slightest bump in blade feel. But honestly, you don’t need a huge jump in gap for your skin to feel the increased blade feel and the cutting prowess that it can potentially exhibit. And cutting prowess, this baby delivers while still keeping the signature smoothness that it is known for. Don’t get me wrong, as I feel it has a bit more tendency to bite over the 1.18 if you get sloppy. Otherwise, it’s a natural progression from the previous blade size.

There is a slight change in this prototype compared to the production version. As you know the blade tabs are covered on the START. Well, with this version, the blade tabs are ever so slightly exposed. Not as pronounced as say a Karve but, just enough for one to notice and feel. For those that like to have blade tabs exposed for removal and install, happy camper. To me it makes no difference as I have no preference in either of the formats.

On a side note, my friend Sergei, Gopneg sent me a full sized tub sample of his Bear Tallow soap. Just an awesome performing soap that builds a rich, creamy lather that delivers on protection, glide and uber slickness. And the scent is just right, not to weak or to strong. A clean Fougere type vibe with some citrus mixed in. Good stuff......

A superb shave.....

Both prototype razors...

As these two pics show, the prototype razor length wise is a bit shorter than the original As the blade tab ends a slightly exposed. The razor to the left is my own original START razor, prototype on the right....
