adding a water softener and a heated bathroom mirror were the best things we did when we extended. Showers are nicer, skin feels better, no scum on the basin, no scum on my razors or brushes, no limescale in the shower. I cannot recommend it enough. You don't know what you're missing.

Do you notice an improvement in your lather p.b? Or is the process just easier?

For some reason, since I switched to cold water shaving, the soap residue has reduced very significantly.

I cold water shave, but, always wash the razor out with hot( thinking it would shift the soap better). Will try cold water for cleaning, thanks for the tip.

Hard to tell. When I travel I tend to use different soaps and razors. If pushes I'd say it's just easier and my skin feels better, softer afterwards.

I put in a water softener when I lived in FL and it made a big difference in making lather. Last year I was in a hunting camp in northern Ontario. The water was very hard and it was difficult to get decent lather with a shave stick. The water had a terrible taste to it so on a trip into town I ended up getting some cases of water plus some gallons and used the gallons to make lather. It made a big difference. I had to take a lot of teasing from my buddies since I was the only one who shaved every day.

Moved from a hard to a soft water area recently and haven't really noticed a change in how I make lather, except for the fact I now use badger instead of synthetics. Load and go, that's what it is

Infact when I run the hot water tap I can see more deposits out the tap than with the cold.

I know limescale deposits build significantly quicker in warmer water than in cold water. I have Ultra hard water, and on our mixer taps the cold one is sparkly and lovely, and the hot one is always covered in limescale!

Our water is so hard we plumbed in a new very expensive boiler, and the heat exchanger was totally blocked by build ups and had to be replaced in under 9 months!

I had to plumb in a water softener, but don't think I noticed a great difference when I did.

Matt, did the softener service just the boiler or the whole house, hot and cold water? My mother-in-law has one but it is only plumbed into the hot water so she doesn't see the benefit with mixed water.

It's plumbed into the whole house except one tap in the kitchen.

I definately noticed the difference with shampoos and shower gel, but so much with shaving soap??? Don't know why?? Never really thought about it much until now.
