It must be doing something right, I've used it every day since arrival :hyper:

Its bloomed really nicely and I think the knot has actually gotten a little softer with use. In hindsight I was unduly harsh with my criticism of the handle... Its grown on me!

Reviving this old thread I just discovered. I bought my Hans Baier Silvertip a year ago, maybe a bit more, in a local drugstore (est 1796) for about €45,-. Nice little brush that for me is a bit too scratchy and took a long time to get going. That caused it to get ignored to the point where I all but forgot I had it. Reading the above I might dig it up again.

Well, dig up I did, and use as well for my today shave with Lea, Valencia 301A, Voskhod and Tunney.
Still a bit more prickly than I like, but a better lathermaker than I remembered. Maybe my using the Shavemac Silvertip taught me how to make lather with a badger, I don't know, but it was not troublesome at all. Only thing is, for pass three I had to squeeze the last bits of lather out of it to ensure enough for a pass.
All in all I must say: glad to have picked it up again. This will get used more often.

Got it as a gift, size 3 (25 to 25.5mm as stated on amazon), silvertip. My first badger, so can't compare it to anything except my 20mm Balea boar and 22mm Body shop synth... Pictures below, out of the box:

Out of the box, compared to my other brushes:

Bloom after 6 shaves:

Lost maybe 10 hairs in total, the wooden handle repells water, kinda like it's been wax coated, but it's varnish/lacqer.
Very satisfied, i think it can still be found on the german amazon (dot d-e) for 40 something euros. Highly recommended from my very humble experience.

This is the one? I agree, the hair seem strange.

Yes, that's the one. It lost just a few (5-ish) hairs whil i was bowl lathering up untill i started face lathering with it. Now it loses 2-5 with each use. With my current knowledge, it's most likely a finest or something like that, it has virtually no backbone when wet, and it has solid amount of trimmed hair tips. I don’t hate it though, srill lathers great in a bowl, and i'm more dissapointed in the face lather fact than the quality itself. In the end it's a gift.
