Freak heat wave

That small town in BC, Lytton, has set the Canadian all time high temperature record again for a third day in a row. For the hat trick they suffered under a temperature of 49.6C/121.3F . Not much of a winning streak as winning streaks go. Just unbelievable.

Let us hope the weather breaks soon Bob, just to let you know, this heat wave is being watched by us and I am sure many around the world.

Good article, thanks for posting it. At least we have company with the US suffering too. I'd be worried that this is a harbinger of things to come not only for our area but the rest of the world as the climate changes. Time will tell.

Standby for a huge increase in forest fires in these areas as a result of the tinder dry conditions caused by the heat dome. Sometimes you just can't win.

If enough stuff burns we will have a nuclear winter, then we'll all freeze to death.

47 is bad but not much on a dry bulb heat index.
Some cities in Indus valley routinely see 50c plus on wet bulb with humidity. Total experience is well past human tolerance limits. Ras Al Khaimah in UAE is on same page but people are affluent enough to have air-conditioning. Indus valley cities, not much for respite then a pipe hose in public park.

Yes, if an area routinely gets these high temperature and humidity conditions the populations gets used to dealing with it to some degree. Unfortunately in areas where these types of conditions are freakish and 15 to 20 degrees above normal temperature and humidity range there is no preconditioning to them. That makes a terrible situation even worse.

In our area the temperature ranges roughly from -30C to +30C depending on the season. When they exceed that at either end you really know it especially if you add high humidity to the mix.

I agree, conditioning, both mentally and physically is possible when general population is exposed to high heat and humid weather for prolonged period of time. But even this cannot stretch forever into unrealistic stats.
Beyond the freak incidences what we are witnessing is perhaps a very dynamic shift in environment weather cycles.
I dread to think of Dubai in 2070 when in spite of all their money and facilities they will not be able to save the city from hotter and humid weather made worse by sand storms. That is what the long term weather data predicting scientist are telling us today.

England gets criticized for its poor weather, the hottest I have ever known was about 32 and that was a one off.

Today it is about 21 and that is just fine with me.
TBH by and large I like the British weather. Most days start off grey by default and from there it can either chuck it down or the sun can come out and you never know which, sometimes you get both. The temperate climate is what makes this a green and pleasant land and the variety stops it getting boring. When we had the heatwave in 2018 (which seems laughable in this context) one of the downsides was knowing every day what the weather was going to do. Oh, sunny again then.

Seeing what's happening in Canada really makes me appreciate our weather a whole lot more and I hope that things get back to normal over there quickly, it must be terrible for the people suffering through it.

I remember having a conversation with a friend from South America, and he said he absolutely loved British weather. In his words: "I like how the weather doesn't get in my way".

Exactly, whilst we send our best wishes to our Canadian friends, I am sure that we are all grateful for the calm of British weather.

I have know just one day in my life when the temperature was -20c, and another single day of +32c. I lived in Singapore for a while and missed the seasons, fairly constant temperatures all year round. An Italian friend has moved to England permanently, he lived in Venice and just could not cope with being hot, every day, during the summer.

I am sure that we all send our thoughts to Bob and hope that the end of this heat wave will end as soon as possible.
