My uncle had the same experience. At 92 he reluctantly accepted that he had to move into a retirement home, he was not happy at all until he moved in, he had been married for over 50 years and he was amazed that other residents wanted to share his bed, they even asked him if that would be okay as if he was handing out free ice creams.

He has passed on now, they struggled with the coffin lid obviously.
