Food you ate has a younger person.

I thought I would start this post out of interest. I was thinking about some of the foods I ate as a younger man, and very much enjoyed, mostly served by my gran. I no longer eat some of them now, because I don't see them, except Lamb's fry, which is another term for Lamb's liver. Here are a few I really enjoyed.

Stuffed lamb's hearts, which were served as part of a dinner with a lovely, rich gravy. Cold meats such as pressed Tongue, lots of Faggots & Peas, every Friday we had Smoked Haddock.

Items from the garden were canned or frozen. Meat was included in stews, soups, and casseroles. Chicken parts including livers. Egg in various forms. Fried Salmon patties.

We had fried and mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, bean varieties, cornbread, gravy, dumplings, and biscuits. Basically anything that made you feel full.

We drank lots of sweet iced tea. Desserts included cakes and pies.

I’ve never eaten tripe nor do I ever intend to 🙂 😇
An excellent call.

One of the only things I regret getting talked into repeatedly. Everyone thinks they have the recipe that will make me like it. I’ve been pressured into trying family recipes, including several while in Italy. The last time was at a co-workers family-run Vietnamese restaurant. I promptly got food-poisoned. Never again!

That’s so true about people saying you need the right recipe. Heard it so many times but I’m still not eating it lol. 🙂

You can do a lot with beans. My mother introduced me to pork and beans with yellow mustard. Peanut butter and banana sandwiches. My great grandfather put orange juice in his corn flakes. I used to enjoy watching my grandfather sop gravy and fried egg residuals with a biscuit. He also mashed the back side of his fork to retrieve the last morsels. I think the British folks do something similar. He used salad dressing (mayonnaise) dressing on iceberg lettuce wedges.

Everything was cooked in fat. All you wanted to do was take a nap afterwards.

When I was a very small child my Mom made soft boiled eggs for breakfast thinking I would eat them because her dad did. For as long as I knew my Poppy, he ate an ulcer friendly diet. Breakfast was lightly toasted white bread with margarine, soft boiled eggs, a prune and a cup of tea. But his tea was simply hot water with a splash of milk. Lunch was a dollop of tuna with sliced cucumbers and soda crackers. Dinner, boiled chicken. The poor guy must have had a god awful ulcer! But back to point, I have vague memories of being perhaps no older than 4 years old and Mom tried to pass off a soft boiled egg my way. It was so gross. I remember trying to not throw up in my mouth. She tried to foist one upon me again a year or two later. I remember attacking it with the salt shaker but it’s all a blur after that. I must’ve passed out from anxiety.

When I was young in my PRETEENS, I told the family I use to have dinner with while my mother was at work. I was highly Allergic to anything Green, Yellow, orPurple, Tan, or Clear. This cover all VEGETABLES. Also I said if I ate any DEATH could be fast. The couple believed me, they were Italian, and had Spaghetti , with Meatballs, or Sausage every night. I grew up eating Italian food, and was drinking wine with most meals before I was 9 years old. Learn all the BAD WORDS in Italian, used them frequently.
