One hand lather and the start of a face lather, then aborted, tells me the knot is very pokey and lots of upside down hairs means the knot will be taken out so I now need to find a small enough knot. The Mühle knot and Omuo knots aren’t small enough. Any suggestions?

The knot measures 20mm at the opening in the handle so I’d say about 19mm.

Yes, it goes to show that variation in knots isn’t a modern problem. Plus it’s also possible that some were best knots and others were pure badger. Who knows though.
